I still believe that the Rice deal will go through despite this latest turn of events. However, let's just suppose that it doesn't go through. I think the Rockets would be foolish to bring Shandon back because SA himself said he doesn't fit in and of course he would want way too much money. So, why not try to work a sign and trade with someone else or just let Shandon go and sign someone else with the available money.

One scenario that I thought of for a sign and trade would involve Miami. Shandon goes to Miami for Anthony Mason with throw-ins to make the numbers work. I don't know if Riley really needs SA, but he does like defensive players. Mase is available and he would automatically be our best rebounder and defender. However, he comes with lots of baggage, so it makes you wonder if he's worth the risk.

Another scenario would be to sign Jim Jackson. I don't think a sign and trade would apply with Cleveland although they like centers so much that maybe we could trade SA and Cato for Jackson and Doleac or Mihm. We would probably be better off trying to sign JJ outright. He doesn't have the size of a Rice or a Mase, but he still is, IMO, an upgrade over SA. Jackson has loads of potential but like Mase a lot of baggage. However, I really think a change of scenery would do him good. Had anyone heard of Mario Elie before he became a Rocket? After joining the Rockets, he became a respected defender and was a valuable member of 3 championship teams. I have no idea why Jackson has not signed with anybody nor do I know who's interested in him.

Pops, Doc Rocket, Clutch, or anyone else with insider info: what's up with Jackson and Mase and what are the chances of getting them if the Rice trade (which I still feel will go through) is voided?

Jimmy Jackson is a free agent. If the rocks want him, he can be signed outright.

Mase may be a good player, and he can contribute right away, plays the 3 and IHMO, brings a lot more to the table than Rice does, but he is not a player you want Rudy coaching. He demands the ball way too much and has a history of being a troublemaker.

He has to be kept on a short leash and Rudy is too much of a good guy to do that. Chemistry wise he would prove to be a far greater disaster than Rice could ever be, without the added bonus of having a gorgeous wife to back his complaints....;)

If the Rice deal falls through, I say we trade Shandon to Charlotte for Bull (Big Bad Bull). :D

I would try to trade Kyle Hill for either one since Miami will probably need him since Hardaway is leaving ; and I'm sure the Cavs could use a back up to Miller. But I wouldn't bet on it.

Crisco, I appreciate it. I've been having a hard time finding a good one and had several in mind; however, this one is definitely a keeper! What is sad is that "Fobinator" actually said this being dead serious!! :)
