In the last few months since I have been on the Internet and read articles by other major city sportswriters, I really think Houston has among the best sportswriters! I have always thought Fran Blinebury is special. Dale Robertson gets on my nerves a lot of the times like when he said we should trade Hakeem but when it comes to sentimental articles rather than cynical ones, he excels. He should stick to being nice. His article today, Dec. 10, on Barkley was informative, helpful and somewhat humorous. Anything quoting Chuck has to have some humor. Robertson's articles on the late Kim Perrot of the Houston Comets were also perfect. Jonathan Feigen is shaping up pretty good too. Anyone else agree or disagree?
Fran has always been my favorite Chronicle writer. His style is fresh and his views usually are right on with what I am thinking. I enjoy his mix of satire, humor, and sentiment. I also enjoy him on 950am in the afternoon.
I like Fran's writing and have for a long time. Robertson an be annoying at times, but he's okay. I like Michael Murphy also. I haven't read too many (any) newspapers from other cities lately, but I enjoy reading the Chronicle and that can be attributed to the good writing. ------------------ I'll miss you Charles.
The only one I don't like is Mickey Herskowitz-- his columns always read as though the last four paragraphs had been chopped off. They seem to end in mid-thought quite a bit of the time.
Fran Blinebury is the most childish moronic writer I have ever read. I hate it when he says good things about the Rockets let alone when he makes critiques. Leave it Fran to always bring up the most useless aspects of any situation. Always. Any time there is a situation, or a loss, he always finds a way to bring up the most scathing and useless aspects of it. He is exactly the type of judgmental sportswriter that players hate. Total shock value garbage. Then when he writes good stuff it's always SOOOO OVERDONE!!! He makes every sentence some glowing analogy...by the end of the article he wants you to see the sun setting in the texas sky, and birds flying with a God-like translucent Hakeem floating through the air keeping us warm inside...WHAT KIND OF CRAP IS THAT ANYWAY?????? THAT'S NOT SPORTS WRITING!!!!! I don't mean any harm to the guy, but if he could just lose the use of his arms, legs and brain that would be so nice.
I agree. Fran Blinebury writes crap. He usually starts of with something like. The Boston game was a war. A war of minds. A war of hearts. A war that will live in infamy. It was a battle without a leader. there was the young point guard...etc....etc. I hate that it's so stupid and he never gets to the point. He repeats himself over and over again in his column. I don't know anything about journalism but every english teacher that I've ever had told me to never repeat myself because its tacky.
I lost the little respect I had for Fran as a writer, after that Vancouver article. That was the worst peice I have ever read. The only one worse than Fran is Robertson. Jonathon Feigen and Michael Murphy however, are excellent.
Fran is a good writer, but his views can be kind of stupid like Romes (actually all of Rome's 'takes' are stupid as hell. Did anyone hear him talking garbage about Charles. "Have a take and do not suck"!!! What about his own dumbass takes. God I cant stand him) Robertson is a freakin Moron That Herzowithc? guy is just simply put - an idiot That Lopez(?) fool has to be the soriest writer in the world Michael Murphy is excellent That McLain guy who wirtes about NFL also kicks ass. Since we are expressing our views on media personality, let me just say that everyone on 610 is a moron. Especially those dumb asses from 3-7. Kenny is the only good one. The 950 show with that one chick I think is the best.
I find it interesting that the reason some of us like Blinebury is the same reason some of the others hate him! I love his analogies, and like SpaceCity, usually agree with the way he sees things. I do like Michael Murphy also - sorry, I forgot him. As far as radio personalities, I cannot stand Charlie Palillo. He knows his stuff and usually has stats readily available but he is rather smart aleck. Physically, he is just a little old guy, thought I would die laughing when I saw that. I used to listen to 740 when they broadcasted the Rockets games and learned a lot from them, Palillo in particular. However, I quit listening to all of them unless there is some exciting news because of the condescending way they treat the WNBA, and that includes Rich Lord. I'd tell you what I think of him but we shouldn't cuss on these boards. Since 950 has a woman now and they do have the Rockets and Comets games, I would rather listen to them but they aren't on 24 hours a day like 610 (who now has Palillo and has Jim Rome - gag). I only listen to 610 when no other sports is on. Does anyone else mistake Kenny Hand for John Granata on 950? I think it is Kenny Hand that sounds like him.
