Wiz and Damn Lanky to Cavs for Chris Mihm and Lamond Murry. Murry isn't exactly cheap and is under contract thru '06. But Mihm is cheap. Murry is also potential trade-bait. Walt Williams $5,000,000 to Cleveland Dan Langhi $465,850 to Cleveland TOTAL: $5,465,850 Lamond Murray $3,750,000 to Houston Chris Mihm $2,067,870 to Houston TOTAL: $5,817,870 The Cavs have 5-6 freakin centers on their team. Surely the Rocks can pull something together if this isn't feasible. PLAYER POS HT WT DOB FROM YRS DeSagana Diop C 7-0 315 1/30/83 R Michael Doleac C 6-11 262 6/15/77 Utah '98 3 Chris Gatling C-F 6-10 230 9/03/67 Old Dominion '91 10 Zydrunas Ilgauskas C 7-3 260 6/05/75 Atletas (Lithuania) 3 Jumaine Jones C 6-8 218 2/10/79 Georgia '01 2 Chris Mihm C 7-1 265 7/16/79 Texas '00 1 It sure seems like the Cavs would be willing. After all, Ilgauska is signed @ 11mil and Diop has a lot of potential. What do they want with these other guys? Doleac is under his last year of contract. So might be a decent patch if nothing else frees up. -krosfyah
Actually, since someone started a thread already about Langdon being cut, a more realistic trade could be: CLE trades: Mihm Langdon (Forget Murray, he's one of their best scorers) HOU trades: Walt and any 2 of KT, Langhi, or future 1st rounder (I would guess KT and the pick) Like you, I would like to see Mihm on the Rocks, too.
I'm not a GM (obviously) but it seems like CD could work some magic. I'm not that familair with Lamond's game so maybe he wouldn't work but the numbers work out. I could see a trade taking place towards the trade deadline, rather than before the season. Walt is immediately servicable and he free's up a chunk of cap space for the Cavs. Cavs would be willing to trade with 6 centers on the roster. Other teams could probably put a better package together, however. -krosfyah
I'm probably the biggest Chris Mihm fan on the BBS. I must have seen Chris play like 30 times here at UT, and he'll be one of the best in the East (I know this isn't saying alot). Mark my words: the guy will become at least a 15 pt, 8 rebound guy in the NBA. He's got a good mid-range jumper and a nice array of moves around the hoop like a turnaround and a jump hook. He's got great shotblocking instincts and can rebound well. Only thing is that he doesn't have great lateral quickness, and lacks athleticism. Hook Em Chris.
Will no one point out that Jumaine Jones is a SF, not a center? He's 6'7" and 220 lbs -- not even Michael Ruffin (part-time center last year for the Bulls) is that small. That said, I hope the Rocks can acquire Mihm without maiming the Rocket roster.
I would doubt that Cleveland would want to get rid of Mihm. Is Cleveland shopping any of their big men? I read some where that Mihm was going to play power forward and not center. It was at least two or three months ago.
My guess is they'll hold on to all of them until the trading deadline. By then, a few contenders will be desperate for big men, thereby giving Cleveland more leverage.
I'm a Horn myself, and had the pleasure of watching Mihm play many times for both Penders and Barnes. I loved Mihm when he was in school. Good touch on the outside shot, nice post moves, great shot blocker. The thing I didn't like about him, and what I still don't like about him is that he's SOFT. He gets beat up and pushed around and then he starts getting tentative with his offense. That being said, I'd still take him over Cato. (Hell... I'd take Swen Nater or Uwe Blab over Kato)
Wow. That trade actually would work. S/T Moochie for Mihm. Mooch gets his 2.5 mil contract and Fegan is happy. Rocks get their backup 5 spot and potentially a starter. I would support that trade. Rocks have 3-4 folks that could play point. Steve is going to use 40+ min. Cat can play. Kyle Hill could play a couple minutes or so. Even GRice could bring the ball up in a pinch. If you have a chance to S/T Mooch and pick up Mihm in an even swap, I think it is a no-brainer. Hopefully Cat/Steve won't cry about it though. -krosfyah
If CD trades Mooch for Chrissy Mihm, who IMO has very little if any future in the league, I will throw up.
Gatling is a PF. Jones is a SF. Diop is a project that won't contribute this year. Ilgauskas is extremely injury prone (is he ok right now?) Mihm, and Doleac are the only two that can be counted on. It might be harder than it looks. I saw Mihm play at UT and I can't say that he is that great. Not once in his college career did I see him take over a game. Not once. That aside, I would still consider him a guy that could contribute and do good some things for us. I think Cato would start over Mihm... gulp. Go Horns?
Well, if I was forced to choose, I'd take Mihm over Mooch. I really like Mooch as he always comes in the game when Steve/Cat get stale and brings in new life. He has a lot of heart. But this is Steve's team now and he'll play more mins than ever. But where else are you going to find a servicable big man that cheap? (2.5 mil) Only bad part is Mihm has 4 years left on his contract. But at that price, who cares. He would also make good trade bait with that contract. So if you are going to make a trade for a big man...it comes down to keeping Wiz or Mooch? If you keep Wiz, you free up 5 mil next season. -krosfyah
Rice's contract is a cap-killer anyways, so keeping Walt just to have his $5M expire of the books next summer is pointless. Walt has to go, but to who I'm not sure. The obvious deal is to Washington for Jahidi, but Popeye has mentioned several times now that there other options for Walt to be dealt for a backup center. Any ideas as to who CD/RT could be eyeing....other than Mihm!!???
Popeye? How is Popeye better than Mihm? I only see two options right now. Jahidi or Mihm. Maybe Doleac at 2.7 Would a S/T with Marc Jackson work?
I am going to make two statements, but I want everyone to undestand that they are mutually exclusive: 1) We will not acquire Mihm 2) Moochie will remain a Rocket Why? Run'n Gun, baby. Any help we get at the 5 will cost us Walt. Whatever help we get for him will be minimal - a big body with modest skills is the best we can hope for. There's just about no one left on the FA market who can help us there, which leaves us with only S/T options. For Walt we're not gonna get a superstar. But that's OK. All we need out of a big man is a few rebounds (hopefully some decent passing skills) and an occasional block. Our game plan now is to simply outscore the opponent All we need is a big body in the middle to keep defenses honest. Oh, wait, we've got Cato for that... Run'n Gun. Over, and over, and over, and over... No one will be able to keep up!
