That's kinda dumb. If GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format, then why wouldn't the G be pronounced like G in Graphics. Seems like the people who created the GIF were just trying to be contrary.
Yep. I say "GIF" with a hard "G" like in "Google" because the first god (hard "G") damn word of the acronym is "Graphics" (hard "G").
I am the ultimate authority on this topic (Wikipedia can bite me). It is pronounced GIF, with a hard g, like in golf.
I've always said it with a soft g (jif). Not really sure why...probably because that's what my dad called it or something. It seems like thats how the creators pronounced it (Choosy developers choose GIF). Up until this point, I didn't realize that people said it the other way (and apparently, more people say it that way than the "correct" way).
I've always said GIF as JIF since I was born... maybe im just naturally smarter than everyone else here
