http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2006/10/an_injury_but_not_a_catastophe.html After last season, any injury sounds serious. Or at least, now Bonzi Wells really is a Rocket. Still, Rockets trainer Keith Jones compared Bonzi Wells' infected lymph nodes to a soar throat, probably needing no more than a day or two more of antibiotics. Wells said his still sore groin was nothing worth concern. He tweaked it in the playoffs last season and he was never better than in last season's playoffs. Still, where the Rockets and injuries are concerned, that was the last bit of news that they wanted to trickle out of media on Tuesday. That said, the tone was vastly different from last season when Bob Sura was already heading to surgery. It was different from a day later, when Dion Glover was hurt in what was called a minor injury but immediately seemed to inspire concern that it could be much worse. On Tuesday, Wells' injury was mentioned, but relatively quickly dismissed. If anything, it sounded as if Wells might have been ready to go had he not been such a late addition to the roster and had a chance to go through the training and treatment as most of the team had this summer. With that out of the way, the place was brimming with confidence. It almost always is this time of year, but just as the summer additions and especially the last-minute grab of Wells seems to have energized fans, the moves seemed to invigorate players. Just a week before the first preseason game, it will be interesting to see which of the new guards starts quickly, where Shane Battier fits in the frontcourt and who takes an early lead in the battle for roster spots. If nothing else, with a 19-man roster, there is a lot going on while waiting for Wells to be cleared to play.
Swollen lymph nodes that need antibiotics to cure sounds like secondary symptoms of STD's. Chlamydia perhaps. Just a guestimation.
That would explain the report from one of members that Keith Jones went to visit Wells last week before he signed.
lol, are you serious or is this different than the joke about keith jones going up to marry his cousin or whatever it was?
The lymph nodes should clear up, but it's the sore groin that concerns me...that seems like the type of thing that could l i n g e r all season long.
agreed on all the groin injury concern references. been through a groin injury myself. Now I dont know for sure whether Wells has suffered and tear or just a strain. But the deal is, if he's been carrying it since last season, then its gotta be ongoing. And that's a worry. i'm just so damn sick of injuries, as i'm sure we all are. Dont wanna get to the end of this season and have to wonder aloud what could of been if we could just field a full strength lineup.
I dont think it will be of much concern. Keith Jones is pretty onto it so I take it he will have this sorted.
management is going to want this kept quiet, and make it seem like everythings in order. then Wells will miss the opener, and we'll all start realising the cover up. mark my words, if the groin concern is the one lingering over from last season - its not simply going away within a few weeks.
As long as he passed his NBA physical, I doubt that this is really THAT much of a concern. I'm sure with how expensive these guys are it's a little more extensive then the whole "turn your head and cough" routine... I'm sure he's fine, just take a deep breath everyone. I don't want damaged goods anymore than the next guy, but, worst case, he underproduces, misses some time, and we get to sign him on the cheap with our full MLE next offseason.
* crosses his fingers As usual, I'm more than willing to buy into the hype. Championship or bust! And Bonzi is going to be great here and will sign a multi-year MLE deal next season. Oh, and btw.... AHEM
Looks like Hayes is out for a few days too ... pulled a muscle during summer workouts. But overall it seems more like the Rockets are playing it safe with these guys. They want to make sure that they're completely healed before putting them on the court. Which is fine by me.
