I thought this was funny .

Laettner gets a stake in Grizzlies

    Associated Press

MEMPHIS, TENN. - An investment group that includes Christian Laettner and former Duke teammate Brian Davis has agreed to buy 70 percent of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Laettner is also interested in returning to the NBA to play for the Grizzlies.

"We'll try to make that happen as soon as possible," Davis said.

Laettner left the NBA after the 2004-05 season with Miami, his 13th in the league.

Memphis coach Mike Fratello said he had heard nothing about Laettner's comeback.

"I guess if you own the team, you can put yourself on the roster," Fratello said.

haha I really find that amusing. whats he gonna get paid for playing - or will it be for free? :)

Lets see Jordan assign himself to the Bobcats.

Or better yet maybe Les Alexander pulls on his warmups for the Rocks. :D

If Laettner played for free it would cost his team too much

I think, technically, he's paying to play, and the team is still getting ripped off.

If I owned a team I'd put myself on the roster. No doubt. Would be fun to play in the NBA in blowout wins/losses.

Are these two dudes Christian Laettner and Brian Davis a couple?
That is what John & Lance were implying this morning but could not tell if they were joking.

I think the Rockets should sign Leattner to a vet minimum contract...

Is Laettner known to be gay, or is this just a rib?

I don't know how this story can be ture. There is a conflict in interests clause in ownership contracts that stipulate that they can not play when they own the team (why this is, I don't know....Mario Lemuix did it for the Pittsburgh Penguins.....I don't see a problem).

Don you all remember the controversey when MJ came back with the Wizards? He had to first sell his part of the ownership of Washington.

I don't know how this all works, but I know this to be fact.

This is ridiculous. Get the bandages ready, because he's so pitiful, that he just may have to cut himself.

Correct - same thing when Magic made his regrettable comeback with LA. I'm sure Laettner was just joking around.

Thanks Evan, I forgot about the Magic thing too. I don't miss those days.

i don't think anyone in the front office is allowed to play. it's a conflict of interest.

laetner could tell the coach "you like your job? get me 20 shots tonight"

Hate to say it... but perhaps the Rockets can use Laettner, no?

He's big, willing to play physical, and scores garbage baskets efficiently.

why do you hate to say it? must be a Duke hater?

probably has something left in the tank. And he'd probably also be an upgrade on Howard. But I dont think its gonna happen.

how can you part own a team and play for another?
