Well I received some items in the mail today from a place called Boulder Labs in Colorado. The items were some weight loss pills, vitamins, and a weight loss DVD (sort of funny since I started a thread about that a few days ago). Well I call this place and they tel me all the information and no big surprise some of the information was incorrect such as telephone number, email address, etc. So they give me all the information to send the products back to them and then they tell me the credit card that was used for this purchase.

I call my credit card company up and tell them the situation. Boy was I lucky I called them. They start listing a bunch of items such as a Spanish language CD, Nutrional Supplements, Blockbuster Entertainment, Columbia House, etc. etc. etc. I said no to all, and of course they tell me the card must have been breached through phone or computer. They said all this will be taken care of and a new card will be issued and I have some papers to sign and send back to them when they come in the mail.

Has anybody else had something like this happen to them?

When you listed all of those companies I immediately realized why they had all of those things sent to you, all of those companies offer paid to try offers. Whoever stole your credit card info used it to get paid through an affiliate with no intention of taking merchandise. Essentially, they made money by not stealing.

i had a bar try to run a charge 6 months after I had once ran an $11 tab on my debit card at their establishment...

I saw $50 and $75 charges on two consecutive days in early september, and I knew something was fishy...

they were probably losing money and they thought they could try to use an old credit card number and get some quick funds...

i noticed it on the second day and made a dispute...

i called the owner of the bar and threatened to call a detective, and he actually offered me cash to keep my mouth shut...

the bank gave me my funds back and is still investigating... my fear is that the bar has done this to other patrons and they dont even know about it...

interesting story. good reason to sign up with your bank to have every single transaction that occurs to be sent to your cellphone in the form of a text message. it's annoying as hell (especially if you have no friends and think that someone is actually text messaging you), but it works like a charm for me.

i had the strangest thing happen to me. i looked at my debit card trasactions and im $300 short. i called them and they told me the card was swiped at a liquor store and walmart, but that couldnt be b/c my card was in my possession the whole time. chase bank was real cool about it though, b/c they looked at my past history. i dont even go to liquor stores and thats not the walmart i go to....(there's one across the street).....and i when i do go to walmart, i dont spend that much cuz all of my grocery shopping is done at HEB (where i work)

Only one time. Somehow I got some one's annual bill for web hosting charged on to my card. I called and they took it off.

Exactly. Most likely it was someone trying to get a free ipod or some other item through one of those websites. I've heard of people doing that. It doesn't matter if you end up cancelng/returning whatever it was that they signed you up for, once the order gets processed, they still get the referral credit.

I got billed from AOL for a few months before I noticed I was getting billed. Mind you, I have never used AOL for anything before. I contacted AOL fraud division, and they refunded my money, and put a block on my card for all possible future AOL charges.

I got my CC ripped off at the airport once, I was paying a kolache with CC, some fat lady asks me about it, I thought nothing of it. Later in the day I get a phone call from my CC fraud division asking about some recent transactions. I then looked for my CC and realized that fat lady or her accomplice must have lifted the CC while I my head was turned. The questionable transactions were refunded to me eventually but I felt like a spaz falling for the oldest trick in the book.

I might try that text message thing as I have unlimited text messages.

last november, somebody broke into my truck. i had my wallet inside my pants.

it was at the ymca on post oak. damn those people are r****ded by the way.

anyway, they broke through my back window. jacked my wallet. ONLY my wallet, and not my baseball glove, not my pants, not my lunch, not my books, not my dvds, but my wallet.

anyhoo, they went to wal mart twice, and diamond shamrock, and shell. they spent 330 total on my card.
they went to two different walmarts. they spent 105, and 107 at walmarts on westheimer.48 at shell, and 75 at diamond shamrock.

anyhoo, i saw a couple in a van. watching me. but didnt really noticed or cared.

look, i'll take heat for this, and i don't care, but they were katrinas. it just feels that way.

what pisses me off is the incompetence of the ymca, and the HPD. yeah, i know, they got other matters to deal with. They couldnt look at the walmart security camera thing?

wamu gave my cash back thank goodness.

At least the Katrinas didn't buy an LCD TV. :)

Several years at my prior job, someone snipped a miniature credit card from my key ring (that was inside my desk) and charged about $100 before I caught it two days later. I will never ever use miniature-sized credit cards again.

i knew that this would be brought up, so my bad for not putting it in the original post. leave it up to tmac640 to bring it up. since you're good at bringing up stuff... why don't you bring it up deez? :)

yah... i do work for a wireless provider so, yah... it's free for me.

like i said, it's annoying as hell but it's up to you and how many transactions you make, what txt msging plan you're on, and whether you think ten cents/msg is worth knowing you're secure and prevent loss (or is it lost) time on trying to fix credit/debit card fraud once it happens.

    i'm just paranoid that way.

then you have nothing to lose. i'd think it was worth it even if you didn't have unlimited.

having worked for a bank for the best part of the last 5 years i've seen many cases. usaully, the bank is very good about such things, and have insurance to charge off any amounts that occur on your account as fraud once they've completed their dispute/investigation.

also i was caught up in one such matter. Funnily enough it happened when I was on holiday over in the good old USA. Had a chicken dinner at this joint in a mall that was quite reasonably priced.

when we got home we noticed there was the correct charge of about 20US on the account - but another seperate charge of about 50US from the same place on the same day.

disputed with the bank, they contacted the US bank, and the merchant provided copies of receipts - one showing the correct information, the other was completely false - it was listed as being one minute after the first transaction - and the attempt at copying my sig was obvious (and not very good) the merchant also provided details of how i'd supposedly paid for food, and then at a seperate counter made an alcohol purchase...50US worth of alcohol at dinner time?? and on top of that my wife and I DONT EVEN DRINK!!

needless to say the bank ripped the money back from the US bank.

just like to add a warning, when making a credit card purchase in a store, keep the card in your line of vision the whole time. very easy for dodgy stores to swipe a copy of your card under the desk or wherever. this is known as "skimming".

if possible you do the swipe and never let the store even touch your card.

I thought all the female sports team wore spandex.

    i think that's awesome.

now if regular janes wore spandex all the time, that's awesome too.

    ok...

but I have 2 issues with your phrasing

1 - referring to my wife. Who as far you know could be in a wheelchair, much less play sport.

2 - referring to my wife as a "regular jane".

sorry Kam I know your heart was in the right place. Guess you could say im a bit touchy at the moment.

About a month ago, Bank of America called me to investigate a charge. Turns out someone had cloned my debit card and charged 200 bucks at walmart. They didn't have the pin number so they ran it through as a credit card charge. I filled out some paperwork and they removed the charge.

I'm still not sure where the heck my card was cloned. At the time, I was eating lunch everyday in the tunnels downtown. It was very odd.
