Why does it bother you so much if someone has a different take from yours? The fact that I'm taking a wait-and-see approach should in no way invalidate how you feel today. If this news makes you excited and happy then cool. I see you have over 4000 posts here and dedicated fans like you deserve to feel good about the Rockets because they have not given you much of a reason to feel that way in a long time.

Guys, the beauty of this deal is that there is incentive for both sides but very LITTLE risk on our part. We did not take a lot of risk in essentially giving him a one year deal (he will definitely opt-out next year). If he screws up, he'll be de-activated, etc., where he can't be a distraction, and we really do not suffer much salary cap damage. Bonzi has every reason to play well and help this team win and absolutely NO incentive to be selfish and to get kicked off the team. If he does well, then can't he opt out and get re-signed to a bigger contract as a "Bird rights" player? Lastly, many people complain about the big hole at the 4. How many teams are there in the league today that are set at every single position? The answer is not many.

They are not "hoping" anything. The Rockets' management knows exactly how many teams have cap space next summer and how many top tier FA's are in the market. They also know that they will have a full MLE which is the same as ~26 other teams. If the chemistry is good, Wells signs for next years' full MLE. If not, you rented quite a bit of talent for just over $2M.
