Trading Rudy Gay on draft night? My sanity

Being a die-hard Rockets fan last year? My manhood

Gaining all the lost Rudy Gay potential in a Bonzi Wells reality? Priceless! :D

A 24hr admittance to the Lexas Lounge with a year supply of crystal should do the trick.

seriously, way to go Lexas Lounge. It's the icing on the cake for free agents.

Man, if V-Span is as good as he looked in beating the US in the World Championships we could have one hell of a team on our hands. I mean, if he can shoot even a little, and distribute the ball like Rafer (i know thats a long shot) he would be an upgrade eventually at the point. The front office certainly seems high on him.

Also, I'd just like to say as a displaced houston native with no other h-town fans around, I love seeing people as excited as I am about this.

    Go Rockets and Astros!

I was excited to get Kirk Snyder, but this is a whole different level. Great job by CD, T-Mac
Even though I'm excited to have Bonzi, I'd like to hear from MemphisX (who warned us about Swift during last year's euphoria) or a Blazers or Kings fan who has watched Wells play every day. Are his off-the-court problems overrated? And do they ever affect his game?

Don't look for an "official" announcement today.

Am I the only one who thinks that we may have too many perimeter players at this point and too few big men?

Bonzi had close to 8 boards a game last year. Between T-Mac, Bonzi and Battier, we should have no problems rebounding. Nobody out there could guard the elite big men in the conference anyway, Bonzi's the best thing available and the best thing thats happened this offseason. Major talent, dirt cheap!

I just hope we get the motivated, really good Bonzi every night, and not the head case Bonzi.

All the same, this is one hell of a pick up, especially considering the price.

Never been a big fan but he can help and he's a rocket which makes me a fan of his now. Play team ball and play D Bonzi and the wins will come, thanks for the sacrifice, hopefully you get paid in gold.

If you go strictly by body count, yes, but some of the excess backcourt players won't make the team.

And, BTW, Bonzi is not a perimeter player. He's a post up SG with a nose for the rim, so you can count him more as a "big man". The highlights that show him shooting 3s don't represent what he does on a regular basis.

    Still Pipedreaming -
All Unrealistic but I can't help it.

What if Vspan becomes Manu II?
Talk about a star-studded team, we would have a 4-pronged attack, only to be glued together by our "ultimate role player" Shane Battier. The case can even be made that our starting lineup could be better than Team USA's.

Killbill, Bonzi, Tracy, Battier, and Yao - vs - Hinrich, Joe Johnson, Lebron, Carmelo, and Elton - It could very well be close.

I know this is all on paper, but lets look at starting lineup matchups just for fun.
    Spurs

    ------Parker, Manu, Bruce, Duncan, Butler/Elson
    Adv.......S.......=........R........S........R
    ------Alston, Bonzi, Tmac, Battier, Yao
    ....................Comes out Even

Spurs Bench: BBarry, Van Exel, Udrih, Finley, Horry, Eric Williams
Our Bench: Head, Snyder, KillBill, Juwan, Hayes, Novak
    Adv. Spurs

But it's arguable that Bonzi gives Manu fits (23 and 12 anyone?) and Battier will do a better job on Duncan than say Butler/Elson on Yao.

    Mavs

    ......Terry, Stack, Howard, Dirk, Diop
    Adv....M.......=........R........M......R
    ......Alston, Bonzi, Tracy, Battier, Yao
    .......................Even

Mavs Bench: Dampier, Devin Harris, Croshere, Devean George, Mbenga
Our Bench: Head, Snyder, KillBill, Juwan, Hayes, Novak
Adv. Mavs but not by much here.

Here it's very arguable that Tracy and Yao will do better than Terry and Dirk, making this once again even.

outside of finley & udrih, i'm not so sure.

van exel's done. retiring, i believe. bbarry was trade fodder last season. horry's on his last legs and eric williams is an average bench player (6-8 in the rotation).

Hard to argue with the move, but if he does what he is supposed to do this year, we may be able to resign him next year after he opts out.

Concerning a 4, when was the last year we didn't enter the year needing an improvement in the PF role? Either way, we now have 2 of the top 3 at two positions and a way above-average player at another spot (Bonzi). Factor in Battier, also an above average position player (at least from a role player standpoint), and...LOOK OUT WESTERN CONFERENCE!!!
