I finally get to weigh in after reading ALL 24 pages of this. My ticket rep called me this morning to tell me about this since I hadn't heard it yet. I couldn't believe it. Fantastic that Something is going right for my Rockets. Very exciting news. I also had the same question one of the posters had previously for you capoligists and CBA experts. CAN the Rockets in year two of this deal, get Bonzi into a renogiated deal without any penalty? Can he opt out of the deal and re-sign with us for a MLE deal? What options do we have at that point if we want to keep our championship team together?
It's my understanding that we now have his Bird Rights so we could match or exceed any other offer he got. If somebody offered him 9mil next year, we'd need to decide if we wanted to match that. If I'm wrong, somebody correct me.
We don't have his Bird Rights unless a sign and trade was done. Since the deal was only one year with a player option for a second, a sign and trade did not happen.
NBA Finals here we come. Two year deal without a SnT, sounds to me that Les dug into his pocket, wasn't he quoted that he wouldn't be adverse to paying LT for the right guy. Maybe Les/CD think Bonzi is the right guy.
I was pretty steamed after the Rudy Gay fiasco, but Im really starting to think that Dawson and Co have done a spectacualr job this off season. I like the fact that our bench is so much deeper then its been in years. Hopefully Sura will be able to contribute and some of the young unproven talent will work out.
Sweet Jesus. I can't believe we actually pulled it off. Quick comment about Head. Landing Bonzi is the perfect reason to not trade him. Why? Need to look at the long view. Bonzi just turned 30. He has 2, maybe 3 years left in his prime. Head is young with potential. This gives us the luxury of bringing Head along slowly, grooming him, and letting him assume the starting SG spot in a couple of years. Way back when, before the days of Free Agent bonanzas, this is how teams built for the long haul... you develop your young bucks slowly. If we trade Head now, we'll be in a SG-crunch either: 1) next year if Bonzi bolts 2) a couple of years when Bonzi ages and loses productivity Anyway, back to the immediate news at hand... Wow. So pumped.
It's hard to be pissed anymore about the Battier for Gay/Swift trade. I mean, who would you rather have: Battier & Wells, or the Uninspired Twins™? Here's hoping Bonzi & Battier give us back some of that toughness we lost when Sura went down.

THIS is AWSOME!!!!!! I knew the rockets had it in them....whenever their is a player out there with a big name, we always get him some how...I don't know what they do, but they do it iright...even though Stro didn't workout reembmer how nobody thought we had a chance to get him and we did...lets hope this works out better....they landed players like Clyde, Barkley, pippen, stro and now bonzi.....Way to go CD, Yao, Tracy, etc...I'm excicted and glad I renewed my seasone tickets after last year!!!! Can't wait for the first home game against Dallas!!!
How many players does this leave us with? and who do you think we will let go? Do you guy's think this was Van Gundy picking players this year because in the past he has indicated he had nothing to do with personnel moves. It seems to me these moves Snyder, Kill Bill, draft, Swift out, and now Bonzi. All great moves!!! I am stoked!!!!!!! PredictionS???
I dont care how we do in the season as long as we make the playoffs, even in the 7th or 8th seed, we are going all the way. look at the way tmac stepped up in round 1 vs dallas, his numbers were astronomical, and look at the way bonzi led his team in 6 games series last year, factor in yao emergence and we got ourself a contender, by the way im predicting 60 plus wins this year.
why have 2 unproven players when you can have a starter in battier and then add another starter, bonzi. the 2,3,4,5 spots are a lock now swift is going nowhere and gay is going need some time.
Then I hope Yao can talk to Bonzi again after this year if he is going to play well. Yao can Just say we can win more rings if you stay.
