I locked my Keys in the Car and I needed to find a Lock Smith
[either that or pull out a nice hanger and some crew drivers]

I had no Idea they cost what they do

They are 39.95 TO SHOW UP and then 15$ and up
when they DECIDE which method to use
different Methods cost different Amounts

    Shocking to say the Least

Never Locking my *only* key in the car again

Sounds cheaper to just bust a small window or something.

My mom locked her keys in her car. Since she has AAA, she called them and they dispatched someone for free to unlock it. Took like 20 minutes. A slim jim is cheap, but do you really expect to haul around a slim jim in addition to your keys?

I keep spare car and house keys in a lock box underneath my car, attached to the tow hook. I don't have to worry about keeping my keys on me when I go to the beach or lake.

Of course, if you have a car with keypad entry you don't have to worry about all this. Just punch in the code and you're in.

Also, the small windows on cars can cost a lot. My friend's car was broken into, through the small window, and the lowest estimate he got was $800!

That's what junkyards are for, my friend. I've bought about 4 windows from junkyards and don't think I've paid more than $50.

Don't know any cops that might do it for free? I had the fun experience of finding out that the pop-a-lock guys and locksmiths work for themselves. I got off work early one night and made a food run for some co-workers and locked my keys in my car while it was running. On a Sunday... at 4 AM. I didn't want to pay 50+ bucks either it turned out I didn't have the option. No one would drive out and unlock my car. I was SOL until one of my cop buddies showed up around 6 AM.

Now I keep a slim jim strapped under the bed of my truck, just in case.

50 bucks is nothing man. i was in savanah GA with my parents. my dad took went swimming with the car keys, and lost them in the ocean, it costed almost $200 to make a duplicate key on site, yeah that was a hassle.

Check you insurance coverage. I have roadside assistance with Geico, and I mailed them the $40 receipt for unlocking my car. They reimbursed me - no problemo.
