Everyone has seen how bad our defense is, we can't stop the run, we can't defend the pass, and most of all, we're not pressuring the QB. You can make a case for McNabb and Manning, but there is NO reason why we couldn't even get close to Brunell today. Mario has yet to show the speed or explosiveness he was advertised as having. The rest of the DL is getting ZERO penetration and the only player that is playing remotely well is Weaver. With this said, I think it is time to unleash Peek. I think he has the most speed and explosiveness out of any defensive lineman we have. Even if he doesn't get a sack, I think he has enough quickness to get around his man and at least pressure the QB. I'm tired of seeing the QB go entire series w/o having any type of pressure on him and just sitting in the pocket picking us apart. We've seen that Peek can be disruptive if let loose. If we can't get to the QB, we're going to see more games where 38-year old QBs are breaking NFL records. Mario, TJohnson, Weaver, Kalu, Babin don't have Peek's athleticism, I honestly think he is the only player that has the athletic ability to get the QB right now. I also think this will help improve the secondary. Opposing QBs are given so much time against us that their WRs have time to go through their routes AND make a play for the ball. Our safeties are already terrible in coverage, giving time to WRs to work on them is that much worse.
This is exactly why I think the Texans drafted Mario Williams and ignored their DB situation. They thought with Mario, Weaver, Peek, and Babin they would have a good pass rush. So far Mario hasn't shown anything, and neither have any of the others really. That makes for a real bad defense.
What made Peek effective in the preseason was moving Mario inside away from DE. Not sure if they're wanting to do that and limit Mario's "growth" now. At least occassionally scheme to get guys like Peek and Babin after the QB, I agree. End of last year those guys along with Shante Orr started getting sack numbers and pressures. There's arguably better talent on the line this year and everyone looks like crap now. Bring in Peek at OLB even, do something cuz it cant get ANY worse than this past game (can it..? ) Weaver is a solid lineman against the run. Wouldnt know it from how bad the whole D has played. Having talent around a player sure helps but how can a guy like that be solid on a great Baltimore defense and look like a nothing now on this team? I'm sure he's somewhat capable of earning his check. Gotta be more than just the talent on the field, Mario included. Yeah Richard Smith, come up with something
I thought Peek and Babin were rotating at left end with Mario on the right and Weaver playing inside. I think having Peek opposite of Mario might open something ups for him. I think a DL of Peek-Weaver-Travis Johnson-Mario has a good combination of run stoppers and rushers. Like I said, I believe Peek is by far the best pass rusher on the team.
I actually really like what I've seen of ND Kalu so far this season when he has been in the game. He shows a good burst off the line. I think he needs to start getting more time.
it's time to bring the house. it's time to blitz CB's...something. do something. stunt. something. it certainly can't get worse from a defensive perspective...they're already on pace to smash the yards allowed record.
I like the idea of putting Mario on the left and Babin on the blindside with Peek playing a backer position and roaming mostly on the same side with Babin, the quarterback's blind side, with stunts and delayed loops. Mario just needs to line up on the left and bring it and try to collapse the pocket over there.
Peek has been slowed by a groin injury. He was questionable for the game vs. the Redskins, and as far as I know, didn't play. The Redskins O-line had about a billion holding penalties in the game. Didn't really affect their offense's performance. They moved the ball at will. Did those penalties prevent sacks? In the past three games we have seen that the Texans' defense is an absolute train wreck. They can't do anything right. We have two guys (Ryans and Robinson) playing at an NFL-starter level as of this moment. And 11 against 2 just isn't fair.
