I know the Aeros don't have a ton of support in Houston, but thought this was interesting... we'll have the number 9 of a hockey great in Toyota Center rafters. http://www.aeros.com/team/news/index.html?article_id=1163
who in the bloody **** is Gordie Howe? just playing, i know who he is. he is still trying to play a shift for somebody?
I dunno... I actually went to a couple Aeros games years ago, but that was many years ago. I wonder how many fans they average these days...
not a hockey guy but man those friday night games are lots of fun when the entire lower bowl is filled and there are blows being traded. I make a few a year btw
I was wondering why they hadn't put his jersey up in the TC rafters. They retired his number at the Compaq Center a few years ago, and they didn't put it up in the TC when they moved. I guess they just wanted to have this as an attendance booster at some point.
My dad used to take me to the Aeros games back then...we won the WHA like 3 times in a row. Gordie Howe, Mark Howe, Marty Howe, Paul Popiel, Terry Ruskowski and Jerry Turpiano broadcasting.... Man that brings back memories. DD
They used to show them on TV some... I haven't seen a game on tv though in a long time... I actually enjoyed the few games that I've been too, but haven't really thought about them in years because it is hard to follow a team that you never see on tv and rarely hear about...
Same here. I've only been to a couple of games, but its very hard to the follow the team. Wasn't Les Alexander trying to get an NHL team in Houston? Whatever happed to that plan?
He was incredibly close to taking over the Edmonton Oilers and moving them to Houston several years ago. (pretty cool to have the reincarnation of the Houston Oilers, albiet in hockey form) However, the city of Edmonton went berserk at the idea of losing their beloved hockey team so some local businessmen got together and bought out the team and kept them in Edmonton. I'm sure some of the current NHL teams will go on the market soon. Some of these cities in the NHL just don't make any sense, (Columbus, Tampa Bay, San Jose, Nashville etc..) so I figure some of them will get on the block soon for cheap. It actually wouldn't be a bad investment considering how cheap some of them might go for.
Wow, the Oilers would have been great. I remember there was a thread about this, and I think Nashville was one of the teams mentioned. People were talking about how great it would be to take Nashville's hockey team like they took our football team.
i think i rather have kept the football team then take the hockey team. there are 30 NHL teams. Despite winning the stanley cup, Tampa doesn't need a franchise. I remember reading a report saying that Tampa should relocate to detroit.
