A few simple observations after today's whirlwind: - the Knicks dearly overpaid for Anderson @ $7million/yr - once that was established the Rockets were not going to match that going and had to make choices rapid fire - Glen Rice @ $9million/yr is far better than SA @ $7/yr..not even close - Rice's range and accuracy allows us to let Bull walk - we still have some options regarding bringing in White - this team now has a third, and even fourth go-to scorer with Rice and Taylor (don't even count on EG yet)...not many teams can boast that - the way we play will change dramatically to take advantage of the personnel\ - we will be an offensive juggernaut a la Milwaukee - Net net: we have added Griffin and Rice, Morris and the "throw in" (can't remember his name), have lost SA, Bull and Dream. I'll take my chances with those changes. We are younger, faster, quicker and should make the playoffs this year and for many years to come. - And we still may have a move or two left to shore up center spot
We didn't have to sign Rice or Anderson. This money could have been saved and used next year. The Rockets weren't going to lose the cap space because they didn't use it this year. I guess people think we'll be the bucks of the west with the options we have on offense. The only problem i have is that we're in a power conference! Hell, Antonio Davis made all stars at the 4-5 spot in the east. Do anyone think Davis would have smelled the event in the west? The west is forward heavy, the east is guard heavy. I just think it would have been nice to have eddie to play big minutes right away and see his improvement. As it stands we will see him in a frantic state, trying to force things in his limited time (20-25 min/per). Players like Griffin need the time for their confidence and state of mind. What will we do if Griffin performs very well and evident that he'll be a difference maker? That 9mil that Rice makes will be very hard to get rid of. To me its not the fact that Rice isn't productive or can't be productive, its the fact that with Griffin, Langhi, and Morris, that could have been your starting 3 and backup 2 & 3. Plus these players are cheaper, more atheletic, than Rice and Bullard. The Rockets didn't have to sign, Bullard, Rice, or Anderson if they didn't want to. Obviously, Rudy and CD has had a thing for Rice for a long time. Remember, Rice was almost part of an Hakeem to Miami trade.
This could be an understatement. I have no way to gauge how good offensively this team can be. Rudy's philosophy has been to create spacing on offense. Rice does this.
With the new zone rule, If Rice can deliver most of the open shots that his gonna get. He is worth to keep then! But if he is not gonna get into tune.Houston we have a problem! I hope Rudy and CD is right on the money!
Yes, keep this thought in your head. And remember it. There is a VERY good reason why they are the GM and your not. These's guys LIVES are lived around the Rockets ... and yours? 1 hour a day surfing CC.Net. Remember the rule change on the zone!! It's clear Rudy is trying to exploit this as well. As HeyCrispedAgain said, we have a run and gun team that can not be double teamed. Give a month, then b****.
I just don't like our forward combo in the west. If you rate our starting forward combo, next to memphis, and maybe gs, its probably the weakest in the west.
I'm not sure about CD and Rudy smoking, but I just saw this picture of Chris Webber on NBA.COM, and I'm pretty sure he has been.
