What the hell is going on? First, they said they didn't have a spot or money for Jackson. Now they make a deal that makes absolutely no sense to the development of the team. They made it seem like it was time to move the focus to younger players and then they pull this b.s.! After the Hakeem negotiations, CD said he needed time to think about the next move. He must have wrapped himself with a american flag and emulated Pookie from New Jack City. He first gave Mo Taylor 48mill, then he trades Anderson for exploded salary that Glen Rice carries. It seems everytime the league changes the rule, Rudy and CD take it to the extreme. When they introduced no hand checking, everything was isolations. This year they introduce zones now they get a player like Rice. What the hell is going on?
believe it or not i think this was a good move and i think that glen rice will turn out to be a good fit to this team. sure it is a young team and rice may not be a 20 year old foward but what he does bring to this team is a nba finals ring and lots or experience. and should he get injured we might just have eddie griffin to back him up. so overall i think this was a good move.
I very very very much agree. I think this is a point where we can begin comparing ourselves to Portland. Ok maybe not that bad, but pretty damn close! Goodness, we are just way too overloaded. We will have 2 VERY demanding shooters with Cat and Rice, at the same time, Steve and Mo need to score too. Where does Eddie come in?? Eddie is getting screwed here, IMO. Absolutely no room for him to grow. I just can not conprehend why we would keep Glen Rice. Something must be up........
Is they smoking? I don't know. Are they smoking? Well, I don't think so. Remember, Rice is a very good player, shooter especially, and was an All Star MVP a few years back.
Portland made the Western Conference Finals two straight years, and only missed out on the finals because they blew a 15 point lead in the fourth quarter of game 7- something that happens once in a lifetime. Last year was an off year, but they still made the playoffs If we can compare our team to Portland, then the Rockets are in good shape.
how does this hinder griffins growth???? he can still get 20-25 min off the bench at the 3/4/5 spots, it helps him in fact as he doesnt have the pressure of trying to be the savior too soon, and once rice leaves in 3 yrs griff will be a whopping 22 yrs old, over the hill i think not, i love this as we add another weapon to our arsenal and we relieve the pressure on griffin, which should help his development a lot
I'm glad someone commented on this. Sometimes the posts on this site look like they've been written by 3rd graders (no offense leebigez- we all knew what you meant) I think this may not be such a bad deal. Rice can shoot. He'll be great for when Steve and Cat drive and kick. I also hope that shots don't become an issue. It will suck if we lose all our chemistry because there are not enough shots to go around.
How mant more airballs do you guys need to see come from Anderson to see that Rice will help this team? CD and Rudy aren't smoking anything except a plan that everyone will like (including you all) by the end of the offseason.
They are smoking. I am their dealer. They buy that G-14 ****! Actually I sell it to Keith Jones and he distributes... This is gonna be a good deal which will help TMo grow and allow Steve and Cat to have a 3 that can be counted on to hit the tough shots. Unlike #40. BTW - My gal always call Shandon "porcelin" Not sure if that is spelled right (Poor-sa-lin) She said he always looked like a porcelin doll. She also calls Walt Williams "Ice Cream" - maybe she smokes??
i thought the problem position is center. whats with the Rocks and Rice? opening day line-up: Taylor Rice Cato Mobley Francis bench: Griffin Williams Collier Coulson? Norris? ON paper, the line-up looks respectable. But out West it won't cut it when our BEST rebounder is our PG! it makes you wonder how they can afford to get Rice and not Hakeem...
I'm sorry for the bad english people, but I was highly pissed when I got home and viewed this story. Rice is a player for a team like San Antonio or Utah. He is the perfect fit for a team that's trying to win a ring within the next 2 or 3 years. The Rockets are just trying to show steady improvement and make a playoff push within the next 2 or 3 years. What the Rockets have done with the last 2 moves was guarantee themselves no flexibility in a couple of years. With the addition of Rice, a player who pounted his way out of LA, the Rockets have a guy who doesn't play defense, doesn't rebound, and needs plays ran for him. With Rice the Rockets have officially killed the idea of Griffin playing and developing quick as possible. The Rice deal is a backward move by an organiztion that in the past couple of weeks have made teams like the Bulls look like wizards in the front office. As I look at some of the moves the Rockets have made, I wonder if they know what conference they're in. I know they won a bunch of games against the east last year, but you shouldn't model your team against them. Have looked and noticed that the strongest position in our conference is the 4 then the 3 ? Here's a list of players plaing those positions for the other teams.Dirk-Howard, Malone-Marshall, Duncan-whoever, Webber-Peja, Lewis-Baker, Garnett-Smith, Marion-Rodgers, Pippen-Wallace, McDyess-whoever, Jamison-Whoever,Odom-Brand, whoever for LA. Those are the players Houston will play 4 times a year.Rice-Taylor has to be the weakest defensively and rebounding combo of the bunch. If they couldn't re-sign Anderson, which wasn't a big deal, why they just didn't save the cap space and use it next year? I feel cheated at the idea of not seeing Griffin on the court for 30-35 min, making mistakes in the first half of the season, then rebounding and making plays the second half like Francis did. If they thought Griffin was the real deal, why not play him as much as possible? How much did J. O'Neal learn on Portland's bench? How much did McGrady learn on Toronto's bench? The only they learned on the bench was that they should have been playing more in the first place. This hasn't been a good couple of weeks for me as a Rockets fan.
b*stard!! You beat me to it! Uh, Leebigez, the Rockets aren't trying to show steady improvement, and make a playoff push in the next 2 to 3 years. No, clearly they are trying to win now. The playoff push begins this year, perhaps even a championship push. By adding a veteran like Rice, they are clearly trying to avoid the lottery for the third straight year. And perhaps, they are even trying to advance 3 or four rounds in the playoffs. No more slow improvement. Time to win NOW!
If these were the choices: 1. Shandon Anderson for 6 yrs @$42 mill (what he ultimately got) or... 2. Glen Rice for 3 yrs @ $22 mill I'll take the Glen Rice deal any day of the week. I assume we shopped Anderson around and this was the best deal possible. Otherwise, we let Shandon go for nothing?
Ahhhhhhh! For the billionth time: Hakeem wasn't planning on coming back. He didn't want to come back. Money was not a factor!
I don´t understand this trade. If I was the GM I wouldn´t have done it. But.. in RudyT and CD I trust. I am a little worried though that they seem to focused on offense. I have always thought that defense first teams win more games.
