LOL, you think the Texans should have drafted Michael Huff first overall last year? Why would you draft somebody high if every other team listens to the "experts" and ranks safeties lower. That sounds like a great way to give up more than you would otherwise have to - aka stupid.
Um, no, I don't think the Texans should have drafted Huff #1 overall. I fall into the "should have drafted Reggie Bush #1" camp. I was responding to an earlier poster who mentioned that Huff would look good in a Texan uniform. Which he would, since our safeties are so bad that Matt Stevens *shudder* might actually still be the Texan's best safety of all time. *If* the Texans were to draft Huff, it would have only made sense if the team moved down in the draft and it was pretty clear that the teams below us were not interested in making a trade (our best bet would have been a team wanting to jump up to draft Bush, and I suspect that the team's most likely to do that were Giants and the 49ers). It will be interesting see how next year's draft shakes out since the Texans will almost certainly be in the top five again and there is a strong chance they will be #1, #2, or #3. It will be interesting see if they not only pass on Peterson or Quinn (if he is still there when they pick) and if there is a impact safety whether they would draft one that high.
Agree with every word of this paragraph. I had this game marked on the schedule as his "breakout" game. Not that he would get 4 sacks or anything, but just a game where he would show us SOMETHING. Obviously, it was not to be. I'm done defending him until he shows me some progress.
Dont insult Courtney Brown by comparing him to Mario. I stole that one from another board. But seriously I'd almost be glad for that kind of production. Right now Mario is on pace for 32 tackles.
As much as I am waiting to see Mario do something, there are three other guys up front that are getting blown off the line as well.
With all the guys that are done defending him...Im right there with you. Im just going to sit and wait for him to do something remotely positive. Dammit, its frustrating...
I really thought Mario was going to have his breakout game today, but like the entire defense, his performance was very disappointing. Mario and the Texans defense are not going to see another QB as slow as Brunell, it's very disappointing to see him set a NFL record against us. I'm still hoping that Mario will come around soon, but like the rest of the defense, their play this season has been downright horrible.
3 games: 20 Tackles 1 Sack. I've actually read some stuff that Green Bay fans have been disappointed with Hawk so far.
I haven't seen him play, but he has 10 solo tackles, 2 assists, and 1 pass defended. A little better than half the defensive stats of Ryans. Even so, this is the guy I wanted in the draft. The best team over the past few years (Patriots) got that way by loading up on do everything LB's. With him and Ryans, and the Texans still running the 3-4, the run defense and the pass coverage would be much better. (I still think Mario Williams is going to turn out fine. He just wouldn't have been my first choice.)
Sofar .... MARIO WILLIAMS IS A BUST! Come guys this guy is the #1 pick he should be showing something like DEMARCUS WARE or J. KEARSE when they were rookies!! He looks soo slow out there I just dont see him turning it around ..... yeaah so be patience and then what? get all happy when he gets 1 sack? DUDE should be out there showing potential or SOMETHING! or ANYTHING!! I'm watching the game and is just like dont even NOTICE him .... did we just spend $54mil on somebody that would even happen if he was playing or not. and I cant believe I'm going to get ready to watch MNF to see the SAINTS play of all teams because of BUSH .... even if BUSH only gets 50yrd rushing at least you get to see the guy DO SOMETHING! BUSH SOLD OUT TICKETS IN NEW ORLEAN! MARIO IS GOING TO HAVE TICKETS CANCELS BY YR ENDS!
Ryans looks like the steal of the draft for any team, he has been the only bright spot of this team. I think beefing up the DL with a potential elite DE was the right idea, obviously he hasn't gotten the start we all wanted him to have but hopefully things will turn around. The one thing I wish the Texans would have addressed this offseason was our secondary. Our safeties are the worst in the league IMO, they don't have any speed and couldn't make any type of plays against the run. I saw so many plays where the safeties over pursued and Portis/Betts ran right past them.
This team is a mess right now seems like there's always soooo many "missing" pieces that last yr was OL now is Dfense. So I'm guessing a 3-13 season with the #3 pick this yr Adrian Peterson For all you that thinks VY sucks (even though I didnt want to draft him) how come I have this strange feeeling that he'll have his BREAKOUT game and we'll look like USC in the first meeting vs Titans
This is simply amazing to me. Watching Williams get owned bya TE and never make a play is starting to make me sick. First it was just preseason, then it was just first game and now it's 3 games into the season. I', with you guys, I hope he turn it around but he looks like a colossal bust so far. I don't think it makes any sense to bring up other guys we could have had anymore because it's a moot point. I'm very dissapointed in this team. A healthy Portis may have set the NFL rushing record on us today
I think people are just so frustrated that they are throwing out anyone. The bottom line is if we could do this draf over there's no way we take Mario.
All you posters equating Bush/Mario to a increase/decrease in Texans ticket sales are giving me a headache. Go read the posts I made in this thread. Please. After all, according to GI Joe, knowing is half the battle. BTW, Mario may ultimately end up a bust, but I still believe addressing the defense, which was second to last a year ago, was the way to go. The game of football is won between the trenches, and we were/still are abysmal in the "trenches" department. Drafting Bush would have been akin to putting badass rims, Xenon lights, and a spoiler on a 1988 Honda Civic.
Ah, I remember the days when everyone was calling Yao a bust, before he had a chance to prove himself.
