Yao is the man. This photo below is funny... so I thought I would add it to this here thread since it kind of applies to Yao growing up before our eyes (has anyone seen this pic or has it been posted already? Its all good...)
I'm really excited about luther head. Yao must of seen some crazy stuff during training camp from Luther to mention specifically how much luther got better. I like his accent, way more than most native chinese speaker's english accent.
What is a big deal of his accent in english, just note that all american do have accent too in english!, they don't have accent only in American English!
Great interview ! I like everyone else, am really impressed with Yao's new command of the English language. It realy demonstrates his intelligence and ability to learn new things (hoping this will continue to apply to his new found aggressiveness). I myself shudder at the thought of having to learn Chinese, esp. with the schedule he has to keep up with, i.e. Constant interviews, traveling, endorsements and oh yeah, training, and then let's learn a new language to boot. Hopefully this will help him to assume a role as verbal team leader now and not just by his playing. In the past he was not able to express his passion other than his by actions. Can't wait this should be a great year ! The best part is that this team IS evolving and can ONLY get better. Exciting stuff !
That was a real nice interview, great find! I am so pumped! I just want all the new players to get a good grasp of JVG's system and I hope all our guys from last year can come back strong, healthy, and in good shape.
Doesn't surprise me one bit. People around here have acted like Luther is just another throw-in, whether it's the Roy deal, or to get Bonzi. He's always struck me as a guy who you can count on in terms of steady improvement. I think people have underestimated his potential as a shooter. He could easily be our best perimeter threat next year.
So, why does everyone go "OMG YOU SPEAK SO WELL" whenever an immigrant or a person of color talk intelligently? What do people expect Yao to say? "Head make shot. Me dominate paint long time"
Count me out of "everyone" Van Gundier. Doesn't "everyone" defeat the purpose of your comment. I wouldn't care if Yao or any one on the team was mute, as long as they can hoop! I was having problems with video right now, what were the Dream comments?
Nothing new...Yao was just trying to be politcally correct. Just saying Dream was one of the best centers ever and how much he would learn from him.
I think people remember Yao's broken english and constant use of a translator when he first got here and are comparing that to now. You are blowing it way out of proportion.

I was kidding about the reaction about Yao's english. Just recalliing the reaction about the first Battier interview after the trade. People said he spoke well, too. Wonder if Jon Barry gets the same compliments for speaking well. As for Head... JVG has talked about his deficiencies all summer (and all last season)-- how he is not a pg, how he is only a "rotation" guy, how he is a midget, and, iirc, how he can only drive one way. Head seem like the kind of guy who would respond by working super hard to prove his doubters wrong. I am hoping for a good camp battle between Snyder and Head for minutes.
