Cash Back Fee?

    I just was at Chevron and I asked the guy if they gave cash back on debit cards and he said yes but there would be a $1.75 fee, like the ATM. I have never heard of this.

    Either he didn't know what he was talking about (he told me stop and go did the same thing which I have never seen), or this is something new.

    Has anyone here experienced this?

    I eat at a lot of small Asian restaurants. Often many of them require a 5 dollar transaction to use a credit card or they charge a 50 cent fee. A friend of mine says that is against MC/Visa policies and you can report them and they will get in trouble.

    To answer your question, no.

    I've been using debit cards religiously for everything since the early 90s and if I ever experience your situation it'll be the first.

    But you know, it wouldn't surprise me...everybody is looking for easy money.

    If I might add, take cash to Mexico...withdrawing from an ATM machine is painfull.
