What reason would Yao have for doing this movie except being an attention-w****? He doesn't need the money. He has more exposure then he cares for. He doesn't have ambitions of getting into the acting business, outside of commercials (which are lucrative while not being as demanding as a movie would be).
And why would he want to get beat up by a guy much smaller than him who's not as great as Bruce Lee in martial arts?
This is very very old news, back 2 to 3 months ago. He turned it down almost the next day or so when Brett Ratner first leaked out his plan in June (??). He made it known that his focus is basketball, and he is not in the entertainment business. Beside, as he jokingly turned down a similar offer from Stephen Chow 2 to 3 years back for Kung Fu Hustle, the issue remains the same: can they find him a 7ft 6 stuntman or a 7ft leading lady ?
and he has all the reasons not to do it. a bad guy image on his first hollywood film. beaten up by a black guy half of his size and knows less kongfu than he does. demanding significant time and energy for the shooting... i say good for him for refusing.
I like the idea of recreating that famous fight scene but with the race roles reversed. Makes me think the 3rd installment of this movie might actually be funny and fresh.
Parts of this thread have me laughing just recalling Rush Hours 1 and 2. Some people obviously don't like them but I figure by and large most are somewhat fans. And the whole idea with Yao and Chris Tucker, I mean come on it's Rush Hour. So we know it would all be done tongue in cheek. If Yao goes down LORD knows it wouldn't be because of Chris Tuckers ... scene would possibly pay out where Chris goes through all his faux kung fu motions while Yao just stands there waiting (for like 5 minutes) for him to get through. Then in the end Yao get's hit on the head (by mistake) and get's knocked out. End funny scene and Yao doesn't play out too much as the heavy. It would be a cameo at best. Come on Yao do it!!!!! Rush hour 3 would make BILLIONS in China alone. Ok well my 2 cents.
Is there something wrong with playing a bad guy? I'm sure people are not dumb enough to confuse a fictional movie role to Yao's image. There is no way this movie would give him a bad image. Anyways, I grew up watching Bruce Lee movies with my family and to see our own player recreate a legendary fight scene in one of the greatest comedy action movies of all time would be amazing. Anybody who actually seen The Game of Death knows that this is the perfect role for Yao. It's not too much of a demanding role, half the fight, Kareem is fighting Bruce from his seat. And it probably won't last any longer than 5-10 minutes. I can already imagine how hilarious Chris Tucker would be in that scene.
Here's the old scene, if you haven't seen it: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vXn9xQOCevc"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vXn9xQOCevc" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> You know given that Shaq loves old kung fu crap and appearing in bad movies, I'm surpirsed they haven't lined him up to fight Chan yet.
Yao is a national hero. So therefore, if he's not offered a role to play the good guy, then don't bother offering the role at all. Leave the big man alone. I wouldn't appreciate seeing Yao Ming playing the bad guy in the movie. But on the other hand, this would be a way better script. Chris Tucker turns into a bad guy cause he can't keep his mouth shut and he's always being jealous and greedy. Yao Ming comes in to save the day by b**** slapping Chris Tucker back to Africa. Now that's a great script!!!!
Maybe if Ming was getting beat up by Chan he would say yes. I can see why he would say no to getting beat up by Tucker.
Actually a better idea would be Yao Ming beating up both Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker! I would definitely pay to see that!!!
Yeah, and it'll add another weapon to the Yao haters' list: "Yao is soft.He got beat up by Chris frickin Tucker."
Well I would still say no if it is Jackie Chan versus Yao Ming. Personality and character wise, Jackie Chan is viewed as a bad guy and a hypocrite, and should not be mentioned in the same sentence as Yao Ming.
wow! someone who actually gets it. have any of y'all watched the first two Rush Hour's? i'll let you in on something. they're comedies! chris tucker's character wouldn't be facing off with yao in some classic bruce lee type scene, it would be comedically done. and however tucker beat yao, it certainly wouldn't be through an exquisitely choreographed kung fu scene. burnshroom probably nailed exactly how it would happen. did the "yo, yao" commercials live up to his national hero status as well? he wouldn't be some supervillain killing people left and right. he'd be in a funny parody of an old scene. kareem wasn't ruined by playing "the bad guy." so as long as yao is being cinematically fellated, then it's all cool. otherwise, no one should approach him.
What are you talking about - Jabbar was kicking Lee's buttock until Lee discovered his weakness to sunlight...
