Wth does this stuff mean? Can someone dissect this and explain? Code: Tue 10/31 Houston Rockets 05:00 PM 119 Over 44.5 wins -113 120 Under 44.5 wins -103
the 119 and 120 just signify the bet number. so you can ignore them the way it works... if you think the rox will win over 44.5 games (45 games...the .5 is so there is no push) then you have to put up $113 to win $100. you have to front the extra money because of the minus which implies people think the rox will win over 44.5 games. if there is a + then you are betting $100 to win the + amount. like for the raptors if you believe they will win under 31 wins then you will be betting $100 to win $111. money line betting is confusing at first.
so does it mean there is no way you'll win by betting on teams like houston, with "-" numbers on both over and under?
the way the casinos and sports books make money is through "juice". that is basically the fee you pay when you are betting. so if you are taking both sides of the bet then you will lose money on the juice. there is no way you can bet both sides and win money. sports books try to make it so that half of the bets are coming in for one team and half are going to the other so they can take the money from the juice. so when you are betting you are not betting against the house, but you are betting against what the general public thinks. http://wizardofodds.com/sports good site to see the odds and house edge on sports betting.
