I swear to God, the first thing I told myself when I saw the title was "this is an Aggie joke". That's sad, though. Gotta feel bad for the ladies.
well considering the fact they locked themselves in for 2 hours, I doubt taking the time out to explain how to manually unlock the door would have worked. Maybe the windows were smashed in an attempt to knock some sense into the old geezers.
I bet their genes have already passed on the the next generation, so it makes no difference to the Darwin award.
and ArtV, the battery ran out of power. That wouldn't allow them to open the window. But I bet when attempting to open the doors from inside, the mechanism unlocks the door. My CAMRY's mechanism allows this, at least. I wonder what model it was. At any rate, I too was hoping to see some practical or hidden camera joke on YouTube when I opened this thread.
Years ago, my Dad had an Audi that started doing weird things during a trip to Colorado, one of which was that the power doors wouldn't unlock. You'd push the button and they wouldn't do anything. My mother actually suggested that we open the sunroof (which was of the old crank variety), make me climb out with the keys and open the door from the outside. I, despite being only 9 years-old at the time, suggested we just physically pull up on the locks to unlock the door. My way worked just fine. My mother, by the way, has a PhD in Psychology. I have to believe she would've at least tried pulling up on the locks before she got anywhere near heatstroke (the locks wouldn't stay up, though. When you pulled on them, you had to hold on while pulling the lever to open the door).
Its easy to see in hindsight that you can just pull up on the small lock pullsticks but honestly its not hard to see why you might not realize this no matter how stupid or smart you are. With cars all having those power lock buttons and the keyless entry system, I don't know the last time I've ever used those lock pullsticks. If you almost never use them, is it that hard to imagine you wouldn't think of using them?
I was assuming that they didn't have a soundproof car and could hear instructions with the windows closed, but they are old and maybe they couldn't hear too well. Or maybe they tried to give them instructions but the ladies failed to comprehend. But my initial thought was what St. Louis posted - it's what they know.
This is great story. Thanks for sharing. People so getting used to the convenience that they become inconvenient.
