http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1002,90%257E96418,00.html Vandeweghe's first big step as GM could be trying to lock up Nuggets forward/center Raef LaFrentz, who could become a restricted free agent if he's not signed to a contract extension by Oct. 31. "Raef is a big part of the team," said Vandeweghe, who hopes LaFrentz and Nuggets swingman James Posey will attend his Aug. 27-31 skills camp at Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles. "He has tremendous potential. We are going to do everything we possibly can to make him feel like he has a home here. "There are always concerns with the salary cap, which is obviously complex. But we intend to keep Raef forever." In-depth contract talks for LaFrentz likely can't happen until his agent, Michael Higgins, returns from vacation around Aug. 20. "I haven't talked to (Vandeweghe), but I assume I will talk to him in the next week," Higgins said. "They were waiting on Kiki, and now that he is hired I'm sure when I get back from vacation we'll start talking about this thing. "If the Nuggets want to do something, obviously the ball is in their court. (La-Frentz) probably would listen, and he probably wouldn't mind getting something done this summer. But it's not do-or-die if he doesn't get something done this summer. It's not like he is going to be going away." well i hope we keep him, but im not a raef-fanatic (just a fan)...so if we can get a good deal id still be ok with that. i just wanted to show this so you know its not a 'raef hates denver' or 'issel hates raef' thing at all. so that factor has been removed. fair deals please
honestly no. im wondering where all this started from in the first place (is it just dreaming or did you read it somewhere). i mean first, the salaries arent even close. you cant just throw in wahad cuz of byc (still dont match anyways). why would we trade a big man for a guy we have plenty of? makes no sense. then throw in the quotes i showed you and i just dont see it. although being a wolverine myself i wouldnt mind it too much. would be a decent way to lose wahads contract (i think rice's is about 3 years shorter).
NugzFan... I haven't been posting very long on this site, and even I know that you were DYING to shut us up about LaFrentz. I remember posting a topic a couple of weeks ago entitled "LaFrentz... can we really get him?" and I think by the end of the topic your posts were basically screaming at us Rocks fans to shut the hell up and give up some quality to get him. I guess you're happy now!!!!!
nah actually as the threads went on, i kinda like talking about raef and the rockets. i was bummin when that other thread died. but obviously im happy at the quotes i read at the kiki press conference, even though i like rice. the thing i did NOT like were the terribly unfair trade offers for raef which were based on the assumpions that raef wanted out badly and that he was going to houston. honestly i wouldnt be upset if even traded MCDYESS if the deal was fair. we only won 40 games.
I wish this would put an end to all this Raef Lafrentz talk, but I just don't see that happening. As long as we have Kenny Thomas and "player X", there will always be plenty of people on the board throwing out that trade possibility on the board. Bet on it. On this board, any player that may look good in a Rocket uniform, means the Rockets automatically have the best chance to get that player, with their offer of KT/Walt/Collier/draft pick/player X...that's just the way it is.
and ill be here to set them straight to be honest, this is one of my most favorite non nugget boards. i dont really mind it most of the time.
