If you can afford it, and you don't get it, you ain't cheap. You just don't know any better. They're really not that expensive (relative to historical prices for non-HD big screen TV's). In fact, get a HD projector like I did, and you can build your own big screen - cheap:

If you're planning to jump on the HD bandwagon, consider digital projection. It's not for everyone, but if you have a dedicated media room, it's awesome. The higher resolution allows you to blow up the screen as big as you want and still get sharp, beautiful images. It puts you right in the game. I can't ever get enough HD. Bring on the HD p*rn!

    nice wigman!

its true some people dont know. then again, some people dont want to hear the truth.. the truth being that HD is better and that its also affordable.

what projector do you have? OPTOMA announced that they will have a HD Projector (720p) for less than $1000
combine that with a screen, then you have a 100in screen!

    WIGMAN,

how vibrant are the colors in a room that isnt dark? i was thinking of going projection, but i dont really like watching normal programming in the dark it starts to hurt my eyes after a while. Thats been the biggest drawback for me and front projection "tvs"

oh well getting the dish hooked up today so i can be rid of the OTA antenna!

    yay!

I guess my HDTV=bigger computer monitor comment wasn't understood correctly.

In terms of pixel/resolution, I bet flat panel LCD monitors are as good, if not better than HDTV's (720-1080p). So in terms of pure picture quality, HDTV is no big deal.

HDTV matters only in terms of big TV. 480p would look terrible on 50 in TVs.

Think of camera pictures. Low resolution pictures are perfectly fine when viewed on screen or printed in small size. Only when you plan to blow up your picture to 8X10 and larger then megapixels matter.

So, if you live in NYC and doesn 't have room for big screens, you don't miss much with standard TV aside from the aspect ratio thing.

Now, carry on with your obnoxious comments.

    michelon tires,

LCDs are part of the HDTV family. so are DLPs, Plasmas, SXRD, LCOS, etc

wrong! if you live in NYC, a flat panel LCD or Plasma would save you space since you are paying a $2000 for a crap 400 sf ft place, why have a crt that takes up have the space?

480p? 480p would look bad on a 50inch TV. but 720p or 1080i would look great.

    Heartless man,

LCD is not an exclusively TV technology.

Why even waste space and money on TV when you already have your 27 in monitor that can double as TV?

A TV is just a box that can receive and display signals. It's not wonderland. So chill.

Does anybody have any experience with Ambilight? Ambilight is on a certain brand TV (I forgot which) that emits a soft halo of light around the edge of the TV to ease the eyes of the viewer and supposedly gives a better picture.

Your mom doesn't own a HD set. It's not nice to call your mom those names either. Idiot.

By the way, some people have responsibilties that involve children and know how to prioritize where they throw their money.

In 1984 a vcr was like $400. So my family got one.... by winning a contest. If we would have waited until they were $39 bucks we would have missed a lot. But my dad still has the same one. Why? Because it works. It works fine.

I bought a new 32" Sanyo tv last year for $166.... why? Because I've got other priorities... like my $32,000 truck that takes kids to school and gets the job done.

I also own an Epson HomeLite 1080i LCD projector for "movie night" if need be. Big whoop. It was $450 at Sam's on clearance.

It doesn't make one bit of difference to me how "sharp" or "clear" my picture is as long as my kids are provided for, sans a selfish expenditure on my part.

    Could I get one? Sure.

Do I need it? No. Not if my priorities are straight.

Am I saying you have no priorities? No. You may not have very much responsibility aside from self-centered interests though.

I'd rather save money for my kids' college, and be able to see them play in person than pay while prices are higher to see other people's kids play on tv.

Keep your stupidity to yourself about others tv habits. Idiot.
