I think the PSP has a lot of nice games, but I think I've come to realize that they're all pretty much niche titles I guess (think of a system that only had Rez, Katamari Damacy, SOTC, Ico, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Lumines, Phoenix Wright, etc....sales would probably suck, but those games are awesome...at least IMO).

The war is pretty much over though. Sony might have made it interesting if they cut the price to $150 for the holidays, put out the PS1 download service, and saw nice sales from GTA:VCS, KZ, Metal Gear PO, etc. But it looks like they want to keep it at $200 or higher, just bundling it with other stuff to bring attention to it when needed.

In any case, it will be good to be a handheld gamer in the next few years.

So, in order to have a viable console at launch, I'm going to have to spend $310 before even buying a game? Plus, the system won't be available now until November? I'm a huge Nintendo fan, but man, am I annoyed.

I've got $250 in Best Buy gift certificates, and I was holding out to get a Wii, thinking I'd be able to cover the total costs of the system with the $250. Now, I don't know. Part of me feels like spending the extra $50 to get an XBOX360 lite, which may represent a better investment (and better value). (And who knows, maybe by then XBOX360 will be cheaper.) For the Wii, backwards compatibility doesn't faze me since I still have my GC, I don't own a DS, so connectibility doesn't factor in, and I could care less about the virtual console stuff since I can get NES ROMs on my PC for free. I only want the Wii right now because of the new Zelda and Mario games. (And Zelda, I can get for the GC). I imagine the TCO (total cost of ownership) for Wii will be far less than an XBOX360 (especially when factoring in XBOX Live), but I'm still starting to lean towards XBOX.

Damn you, Nintendo. I was expecting a $200-$229 pricetag with TWO controllers.

I'm ready for the GPS add on for $50. I've always wanted a Navigation system in my vehicle.

The only people who are disappointed are the people who fooled themselves into thinking this would be any cheaper than 250.

Even my 5 year old cousin understands that saying it will cost "less than 250 dollars" is the same as saying it will cost $249.99.

I am a little disappointed at the price for controllers but as I already have a 360, I'll be dropping the money for a Wii on launch day. I'll buy Zelda first and maybe one other game so I probably won't need more than 2 controllers max.

I was hoping for an earlier launch but I'm willing to wait.

Is there going to be a signficant graphical difference between the new Zelda on the GC and the Wii?

I'm not 100% sure on this either, but from what I gather, it will be noticeable but not significant.

I love my 360, but you are kidding yourself if you think you can get the real 360 experience at 300 bucks. There's a reason that system has...the unfortunate name that it does. And a reason MS has such a small ratio of 'core systems' out there (in comparison to the Premium).

I would have liked a second controller with the Wii - though I am glad for the inclusion of Wii Sports, so I am still happy enough to lean toward a buy.

Particularly with everything I've seen from these conferences.

$229 - $249 with 2 controllers = buy it to indulge the kid in me
$310 for 2 controllers = I'm too old to blow that kind of money of freakin' video games

It's funny, but no matter how much money you make, so long as you're earning your living on somebody else's wage scale, $300 is a lot of money.

A different thought. For a system whose mantra is bringing "We" back to video games, how can they justify selling their system with just one controller??? F*ck Nintendon't.

I think its more, most people were getting it as their 2nd system, so $300(wii) + $400(360) or $600(PS3) is what makes it a little too much for a "2nd" system.

Nintendo would've kicked so much ass if that turned out true. I was surprised at 2 controllers because peripherals are money in their bank. They're definitely holding back for the price drops.

Don't give them your money until next Christmas. The package will be a lot better (Gamecube's was), and the kinks will be worked out.

By then, everyone will have a good idea if the PS3 is worth the money, or if the 360 does everything it needs to pretty damn well for the price.

How many systems have recently sold with two controllers at launch? I think some of you guys want way too much from Nintendo.

How many companies went from Tops in the world to last? If they wanted to come out with a bang this is what would have done it. I will definitely be buying one but that's because I'm a gamer. The regular family they are looking to persuade will think twice.

Does the regular family know the difference among the 3 consoles? I'm sure a lot of people will buy a Wii based on it being cheaper than the ps3 or xbox360.

But Nintendo's goal was not stealing players from the other consoles. Their stated goal was to convert non-players.

the price of the Wii is not all that surprising. at 250 (or $310 for the whole thing) is still cheaper or as cheap as the other two consoles. Of course, they're gonna milk it for the first year or two, then BAM! down to 199 or even 149.

With that being said, and the fact that the PS3 is going to cost as much as a basic computer, it might be time for me to become a convert to the 360.

    Atari <then> NES <then> Turbo Grafx 16 <then> SNES <then> PS1 <then> PS2 <then> XBox 360?
