since we have a secondary that the university of houston could throw on, i believe that peyton will throw for 15,000 yards.

A win would be nice but let's start with actually competing for 60 minutes. A win would be awesome but, the only way we win this is keep Peyton off the field that means 'run the pigskin' down their throat and actually put pressure on Peyton because when he gets in a rhythm it's basically curtains.

Lots of pressure on the secondary in this one, but there is a glimmer of hope, Addai is not the Edge. DL has to actually show a presence and get in his face. Mario, my man, if you want to make a name for yourself get a sack or two on this line. I will be damn impressed. My take, the Texans show vast improvement but still come up short ... 21-17

Sage is a superstar in the making? Wow! I mean yes he did spearhead a helluva comeback for the Dolphins vs the Bills but c'mon lets not get crazy. He's far from a savior.

Stay away from those mushrooms, they're making you looney! LOL.

Nice well-reasoned take. Frankly, we could use more of that in these Texan threads....

I totally agree. I'm looking to see improvement in the running game and the pass rush. If we improve those 2 things but still lose, I'm fine with that. Well, not fine, but you get my point.

The Colts are one of the best teams in the league and we only won 2 games last year. I usually don't believe in 'moral victories' but if we compete with them the whole game and still lose, this would be an exception.

How do you know? Can you read his thoughts? Have you ever actually played football? HS? College? Because, if you've never played then you dont know sh*t about strategy and tactics!

Last question, if you're going the speed of light and turn your lights on, will they work?

From what I've seen unless, you do one of those motherlode-holy sh*t, I just dropped my jockstrap fakes, its impossible to totally fool everyone on the field. I mean the reason it wasnt was Carr has an arm and put some mustard on that bad boy. But, you probably never thought of that because he's worthless, he sucks and has no talent

BTW, did you read JMcClains column on Wednesday? If not, you should've you might have learned something about how intelligent so-called fans are. It's a hypothetical scenario but I'm sure you can read between the lines afterall, you by your own admission claim to be able to read Carr's thoughts.

So, what is he thinking now? LOL.

Ignore? Why that would take the fun out of it now wouldn't it? There is nothing more enjoyable than barbing with unhappy, "somebody just pissed in my cheerios everyday of my life", uninformed idiots and ripping their so-called arguments apart.

Yeah, whatever tough guy, I have more football knowledge in my bell end than you have in your entire body.

You can apologize for Carr all you want 4+ years and counting, but he is NEVER going to be a great QB.....and when you are taken with the first pick in the draft, you better be.....

But whatever, keep on hoping against hope that he makes it......I just think the Texans will be treading water until he goes.

The only thing more hopeless than the Texans is DaDakota.

Colts forget to bring the lube.

    Houston - 19

I will pull for the Texans til the day I die, no matter what out w-l looks like although I am more of a baseball person. I kind of lost interest in football when the 49ers of the late 80s was no more. Now, I am getting excited again because I think with new coaching we really have a great opportunity to show the football world that we do not suck. Even though I did say the Colts will kill us, I figure after this season, we will be WAY better than ever. We play the Colts twice, on Christmas Eve it's here. If we do indeed get slaughtered this weekend I will be willing to bet fake money that we win the second game.

Dude, I played football in High School and I have followed football pretty much consistently for 2 decades but started when I was 10.

Only when I was in the USMC, did I kind of not keep up as much. Yeah, thats right I AM one bad assed MF! So whenever you feel froggy, jump pal!

The real reason the Texans sucked for 4 years? We had a coach that the word "ADJUSTMENT" was better suited to be written in hieroglyphics with blind mime. Then, outside of Marciano we had assistants that were clueless on assisting on game plans. Then, because our coaching staff was so clueless on judging talent and what we needed and what we actually got with our acquisitions, we far and wide not even close to competing. Casserly wasnt an idiot, he was gullible. He did not hold the coaching staff accountable, he did not hold Capers' cajones to the fire and demand results. He trusted Dom and his cronies and THAT is what cost him his job.

So because the previous regime did not have a defined gameplan and clearcut idea on how to get to the penultimate stage, the players, and the fans suffered. Hell, Dom was shocked when we won because we had no method on how to do so, it was purely accidental. 2002-cowboys game-luck, heart. Giants game-the Giants choked that year they sucked. Only game I recall, domination? Raiders 2004- 30-17! I dont care what anyone says Dom played not to lose and when you play not to lose you are certain TO LOSE!

Now, Kubiak comes from a winning pedigree. Unlike Dom, he knows how to run an offense, how to adjust to the other sides tactics.

All I am saying is this, what I've been saying on here for the past two weeks or so ... the system will work. Kubiak worked miracles with an out-of-control QB named Plummer and he helped turn out how many 1000 yard rushers in the last decade?

That does not happen by accident so there must be something to the system. We are not going to be a playoff team this year. Rarely is any first year new coach organization but we WILL improve! How much?

Depends on the depth of development of Carr's vast improvement, OL's ability to finish their blocks, pick up the blitz packages and actually create a pocket, a foreign entity to Carr plus, the running game. Lastly, the DL has to do something other than strike a pose and look pretty on the line. As of right now, there really is no one on that defensive side of the ball in the DL or the LB corps that actually causes concern for the opposition, if that element changes (D-Ryans, Mario) then we will possibly finish above .500 for the first time ever.

So that being said, will the average Texan fan, show some resolve or continually play "villify/glorify?" All I can say to the bandwaggoners is it is what it is and if you dont see the genius that will be Kubiak's legacy then I suggest you become a t*** fan like Smokey and enjoy your 4 wins VY or no
VY because your defense sucks or go Pokes and be suffocated with a season soap opera that goes like ..."As the Star farts into the Wind." If you're a REAL Texan fan then, that much is rhetorical. Yes, Carr up to this point has been a disappointment. He must adapt to reading and executing plays better for us to succeed. His leadership is the question mark that point he MUST improve or else he will NOT be here next year. Bank it! That about sums it. Enough said.

the first two "observations" are wrong. completely. the third is simply asinine. please explain how carr - or any other living human being - is supposed to “inspire” someone to overcome their own physical and mental shortcomings to “play better.” this should be interesting since the only possible answer is, “you can’t; it’s impossible. that idea literally fell out of my ass and it made sense to me at the time. of course, i was also drunk at the time, so maybe i should have sobered up first before posting it. sorry”

you can put a lot of blame on david carr for a lot of things he has and has not done here in houston (and i have), but not inspiring his teammates “to play better” is, far and away, the single dumbest thing ever said about him, and invalidates anything you’ve ever, or will ever, say about football.

    oh boy…

so now it’s david carr’s responsibility to generate confidence among highly-paid professionals to perform their job better? you’re actually suggesting that had david carr simply played better, that charles spencer wouldn’t have been used like a saigon w**** by one of the best front 7s in all of football? that wali lundy’s head would have fallen out of his ass long enough for him to pick up a blitz or two? that the offensive line would have blocked better and opened larger holes for the running backs? that the brand spankin' new coaching staff would have gone mensa on maybe one of the best group of coaches in the nfl?

really? that’s what you’re suggesting? that in addition to his own assignments, david carr is now personally responsible for how the other 52 players (not to mention coaches) perform as well?

now this is actually coherent. it’s still abject mumbo jumbo bull**** that ultimately means nothing, but i would certainly agree he’s done nothing in his first four years to inspire confidence in us (as opposed to his teammates, which isn’t even remotely possible).

btw “4+”? one game now equals a “+”?

now why did you have to go and completely **** all over your previous baby steps back to respectability with this garbage? i’m even going to let the “through an interception” grammar misstep pass because somehow, next to what you’re actually saying in the post, you raping a word that every third grader would be able to use correctly came off less stupid.

first, the obvious question: which game are you now claiming to have watched? because my guess is that you had no idea vince young would be playing sunday, and certainly had no idea when. so did you a) flip back and forth between the two games, waiting for vy to show up even though you had no reason to believe he would? and if so, that would mean you were paying only passing attention to the texan game, though i guess you watched it close enough to figure out carr wasn’t making his teammates more talented; b) not watch the texan game at all but instead saw highlights later that night on espn?; or c) not watch the titan game at all but instead saw highlights later that night on espn?

hmmmm…. i’m going out on a pretty sturdy branch and guessing d) you were asleep and haven't actually watched a football game since 1973, but, whatever – i'll indulge.

so you saw more leadership in vince young’s 7 plays than you have in 4 years (not 4+?) from david carr, huh? would that be the same 4 years that included an improbable opening day victory against the dallas cowboys in which david carr was the qb for every single snap?

so what you're saying is that vy showed more leadership in 7 plays than carr did in an entire game in which he performed well and his underdog team won? really? how is that possible? let me take a wild guess - vy inspired his teammates to play better? or maybe he generated confidence in them… so why did tennessee not score for another 22 minutes after he “through” the pick and were trailing 16-0 in the 4th quarter, eventually losing?

hmmm… call me crazy, but the following factors are all more important to a qb’s success than some made-up intangible such as leadership, which can’t be quantified. but even if you could somehow quantify it, why do you assign it the exclusive domain of the qb?

i submit to you the early ‘90s cowboys, led not by qb troy aikman, who had the personality of a koozie and couldn’t inspire a group of ethiopians to eat, but michael irvin, who’s coke-fueled rants and prostitute-laden parties were, universally acknowledged, the rallying point of those tremendous teams. but i digress – here are qualities more important to a quarterback’s success than “leadership”:
    1. talent
    2. intelligence
    3. instincts
    4. decision-making
    5. confidence (in himself; not the magical ability to spread it to others)
    6. work ethic
    7. stability within his organization
    8. coaching
    9. his offensive system
    10. his supporting cast
    11. the price of beer on the concourse level… uhm… the name of his dog… essentially, any random tidbit since “leadership” is made up and therefore not a quality…

i’m not a carr apologist. at the same time, no one’s doing anyone any good by literally making stuff up to dump on carr – there’re plenty of legitimate reasons to rip him. the fact is he’s regressed significantly since the midpoint of the 2004 season. reasons for this include supporting cast, coaching and, yes, his lack of football smarts, which he either never had or were beaten out of him. he’s also, in that time, lost every shred of confidence in himself.

those are tangible explanations. leading a team and inspiring teammates to play better is the kind of in-depth analysis joe theismann provides on a weekly basis.

    Look DD,

I dont have a problem with criticism where it is warranted but blanket statement s like "Carr sucks, he cant do anything right" be certain dumb statements like that will get you RUN up the flagpoke. If you're going to make a statement back it up with a fact it makes it so much more informative for all who are trying to follow your logic. Afterall, this is a forum and everyone agreeing frankly is boring but, be specific actually think out your point thats all I'm saying.

And saying Carr sucks when he has 2 to 2.5 sec to look for and throw to a receiver is ridiculous. Every football person knows ... 3.5 to 4.5 greatly increases chances for successful completions.

If you're throwing the ball at 2 to 2.5 sec, the receiver hasnt even hardly begain his pattern and thats if he ran the right route. In the pros, any defensive assistant coach will lick their chops and have their corners jump the routes and duh, interceptions and incompletions just complete the misery.
