If any player is traded from the Rockets to another team and you no longer consider the Rockets your favorite team because of this, you are something besides a Rockets fan. I welcome those that come and go, but they are in a different category. Basically, if you follow the players because of the franchise, you are a Rockets fan. If you follow the franchise because of the players, you are an NBA/basketball fan. Both are good. One is better. More basically, if the Rockets traded Yao, Tmac and Battier for a few future draft picks and you think, 'I hope we get someone good'... you are a Rockets fan(even if you are pissed about the trade). Example of this basic idea: --Rockets trade Yao, Tmac and Battier for Lebron, some change and future draft picks. >How you react to this sort of thing is what makes you a certain kind of fan. Of course, temporary fans are still fans.
I've been a fan from the day I learned of this sport called basketball. I've been brought to tears by regular season losses... I lied and told people I liked the navy futuristic pajama uniforms and the logo that could bite people... I truly understood the genius of the Worrel/Murphy chemistry...BRING BACK CALVIN!!!
I think were all true fans... if were still here checking on the Rox when its the offseason, and most of the Rox players are still enjoying their vacation
I never claimed to be "the biggest Rockets fan", but I am a Rockets fan tried and true. I could never bring myself to root for another team full time. My emotions rise and fall with this team. I couldnt get any work done for about a week after draft day cause was so upset about the trade. The Rockets are my favorite sports team hands down.
My most extreme example happened during the '94 championship series. I was living in NY, the heart of enemy territory. I was at game 15 of the season in MSG when the cocky Knick fans had the record tied in their house. But during the championship series Starks had been hot in game 6. He was going into game 7 a real threat. My friends and eye got an ashtray put it in the center of the floor. We also got several Knick fleer basketball cards. We borrowed a female friend's red lipstick and painted war paint stripes across our faces. We started off bruning a Harper card in the ashtray and dancing around. We then got the whole group of 6 of us, and danced in a circle around the ashtray watching the game as we torched and mutilated John Starks game. All of a sudden the red hot Starks went 3 for 17 that day. You will never convince me that I didn't help bring home that first Championship for the Rockets.
I went to my first Rocket game in 1973 (10 yrs old) at Hofhinez Pavillion. Saw Rudy, Calvin, etc. play. I've been a diehard fan ever since.
Thats just gold. I'm getting married in 3 wks and i'm already looking for baby rockets apparel---i'm workin on the next gen
There we go again. If there is human, there is discrimination. Dont discriminate, we are all rocket's fans.
If you are on this board and you are not a troll, you are a Rocket's fan, for sure. And I know several Rocket's fans that are not on the board, so, we are the real hardcore.
Im such a big Rockets fan, I get my girlfriend to wear a Yao Ming jersey everytime she gives me a blowjob,
I have mozilla firefox. my first two quick tabs under the toolbar are clutchfans and realgm. whenever I boot up mozilla they are the first two I click. everytime. I don't post much but I always make sure I know what's happening.
I have lived in Los Angeles all my live and was their for the Three-peat, yet I still cheered for the Rockets.... Been a fan since I came to this country in 1993 and learned about basketball. I have molded my game around Hakeem's "Dream Shake" and style of play although I am only 5'8". Every year, I go into the season with high-hopes (many times, especially during the Drough Years, turning a blind eye to the reality that our team is not a contender) and brag to my friends how the Rockets are gonna win it all. Pointing to all the positives that we have going. Although my favorite player of all time (Dream) left, I stuck with the team. Enough said.....
Rockets suck. I'm a Yao Only Fan. Go CHINAHHHHH! I live in Houston, and this is where they broadcast the games when I was a youngin, so that's why I root for them. I was born in to it, just like I was born into being an Astros fan *sigh* and an Oilers fan *sigh* and now a Texans Fan *damn* Although I didn't become a real real fan of the Astros til the mid 90s when I understood baseball more.
Alternatively, you can ask if the Rockets moved to another city, say LA, would you still be a Rockets fan? If the answer is yes, then you are a real Rockets fan. If not, you may as well be just a homer.
Seinfeld put it best, you dont root for the players your root for the jersey. We all love the Rockets because they are our home town team. It follows that we get attached to certain players and certain players tend to define the franchise. I love the Rockets. I also love the Astros and Texans. I am just a Houston sports junkie and that will never change.
If you can't see the games, you sit in the chat room to read the PBP. If you can see the games but are watching it alone at home, your go to the chat room to vent or cheer. If you are watching the game on tv and no one is available for PBP, you take over and do it. You always cheer on your team. You never jump off the wagon. You don't fall in love with one player and bash the rest of the team. (even hope that that one player leaves to a new team like plenty of members have done here with...ahem...a player. ) Always cheer your team on. I'll see you guys in the Chat Room. (on nights where I don't have 24hr shifts at the hospital).
Some reasons I consider myself one of the diehard Rockets fans: It's because of the Rockets that I'm in the career I'm in now. My wife knows to leave me alone after a loss. I was extremely excited to meet Amigo and Mark Bryant. Always checking ebay for cool Rockets stuff. Check this board about 10x a day. Never miss a game unless completely necessary or the dvr messes up. One of the goals in my life is to one day be a part owner (even if it's a small part). Coworkers know I'll be leaving the office early by looking up the Rockets schedule.
Im from mexico, and here dont show any rockets game, not even highlights, maybe only the score, but thats it
