You seem to have a pretty long leash when it comes to your boy Brad Lidge and clutch situations... now you're saying a guy is worthless based on a really small sample size of pinch hits in one season? Palmeiro's role is to consistently make contact with a runner on third and under two outs. It's a role that doesn't get a lot of statistical appreciation and thus he has a lot of haters, but he performs it well. And we need it on this team.
I normally pull for Davey but man he's blowing chunks as of late. Geeze. I missed some of the game because of Big Brother but I see we caught up. How did Sampson pitch? I was watching a news segment.
Chris Burke!!!!!!!!!!! WOOHOOO!!!!! Big Mac Land!!!! You could see that Weaver was about to fall apart. Burke MUST be in the lineup everyday!!! He is clutch bigtime.!!!
Something I noticed this series... those St. Louis fans... it's like they know the NL sucks this year and the Cardinals leading the division is almost a joke cause they've been pretty apathetic in the first two games; not something you'd expect out of series between these two teams.
I have a very long leash when it comes to Brad Lidge. It's apples and oranges, but Lidge has had more success in two years than Palmeiro has had in his entire career. And don't give me any useless statistics about how often he makes contact and how many career pinch hits he has. He's got 2500 AB's, career .275 hitter with 12 homers and 200 rbi's. That is not good. Orlando Palmeiro doesn't know the meaning of the words 'sac fly'. I'm sick of seeing his weak little infield groundouts. Preston Wilson would have been a much better option off the bench.
Palmeiro is the most reliable option on this team to hit a sacrifice fly, other than Berkman. To say otherwise is fairly unobjective reasoning.
Huff hasn't been too bad at that spot... he hits the ball hard nearly every time, and its normally deep enough to bring a man home.
Garner is showing some below avg intelligence. You don't sac bunt Chris Burke when you have Bruntlett and Ausmus coming up… You either have Burke swing away, or you have to pinch hit for Bruntlett and/or Ausmus…. In that situation, since all of our lefties have been used… You have to let Burke swing away… As I'm typing this, Brunlett pops one to second, and Ausmus grounds back to the pitcher…
That is very good news. If we hold on we will 4 back of SD, and 5 back of the Cards in the division race. You have to hope that the Reds would sweep the Padres, and then the Padres have to go to LA and play 4 games at Dodger Stadium. This is such an important week for this team, and the whole playoff chase in general.
