I always vote Libertarian. If more people knew of the freedom loving platform of Libertarians, it would be a bigger factor in American politics.
Kinky lost my vote when he recently said, "all the artists and musicians have gone back home to New Orleans. all we're left with now are thugs." Yeah, that offended me. I'll be voting for Bell.
Speaking as both a local musician and Westbury homeowner, Kinky's statement is correct (unfortunately).
see, i can't agree. i know people otherwise. there are a few people making a bigger group look bad. unfortunately, that's called stereotyping.
I was at the press conference where this was said. He also said: Friedman said there were "some good people among the evacuees, honest folk who lost everything and are trying, hoping to improve their lives." From the same article: Houston police have reported that 59 of the 262 Houston murders between Jan. 1 and Aug. 26 involved Katrina evacuees, either as victims or suspects.
I really wish they would focus on the smaller elections some they and other third parties seem to only try to hit the homeruns Gov or Pres How about doing some city councils and school boards Rocket River
if kinky wasnt running, werner would get my vote. this poll posted kinda suprised me, the polls from the wsj from mid august had: Perry: 35% Kinky: 23% Bell: 23% Strayhorn: 10% also kinky has been winning strongly in numerous local newspaper polls. and we should all be seeing the kinky tv commercials soon, they're supposed to air in 12 major markets starting today.
I don't know where you're coming from with this. If you support charter schools, they have been a disaster in Texas. Think again. If you think everyone should go to good private schools, show us the money. Otherwise, it's BS. We have more people in our prisons than most countries in the world, including those with far larger populations. Rehab isn't a "slap on the wrist." It's a way to get people off addictive drugs, so they don't get involved with the absurd illegal drug trade. (absurd because it's illegal, IMO.) Keep shoving them into prisons where they can learn how to become real hardened criminals from, you guessed it, the real hardened criminals in our over-crowded prisons. (insert roll-eyes here) With all due respect, this is utter bull****. Texas is ranked around 49th among the 50 states on what we spend to provide poor children healthcare. And Perry, with his idiot GOP buddies in the Lege, has made it harder, on purpose, for poor parents to get healthcare for their children, despite the absurdly low amount Texas spends for those kids. Why don't YOU move to Canada? Then we could raise the level of intelligent discourse on healthcare in Texas, for poor children and the elderly, who are getting screwed as well. Damn, man. Read up on some of this stuff. Right. As if Texas is being run so well today. Give us all a break! By the way, I'm not even a Kinky supporter. I'm a Democrat. Keep D&D Civil.
Hmmm i tried to type this a different way, but oh well About schools: -I still think schools would run best as a private industry, but the founding fathers insisted on public education, so when in rome. About prisons: -I said drugs should be legalized. I don't care what they do now with the drug addicts. They can kill them, rehab them, i seriously don't care. As long as income taxes don't go up. Healthcare: -I understand the ranking. In my view, it's not the goverment's role to provide healthcare to any citizens. The goverment's role is to ensure my private property is secure, and that's it. The captilistic market will take care of the rest. Look at America versus anywhere else in the world. The standard of living is lower because goverment's interfere with the need to take care of everybody. Why don't people take care of themelves? I'm a sympathetic person as you can tell. If there's a way the goverment can support people without my wallet being affected, i'd be all for it. But until then... --I'm not a kinky supporter, a democrat, or a perry supporter. I actually hate all the candidates running in this texas election. So beat that. I'll probably end up voting for me in a write in.
Standard of living is VERY subjective. You may think that our standard of living is better because we have big cars and big houses. Someone in Sweden may think that their standard of living is better because they never have to worry about if they lose their job that they will lose their health insurance or how they are going to survive. Nor do they have to worry about when their parents get old, how are they going to afford to take care of them? They may be happy in knowing that they have one of the highest ranking school systems in the world for their children and that everyone has the opportunity to go to college, even if they want to study abroad. Wow, a government that actually cares and takes care of their people. Amazing concept. And yes, they pay more in taxes than we do but I was looking at my check stub the other day and I pay about a 1/3 of what I make in taxes. They pay about half. I'd rather pay that extra 1/6th and get the benefits that they do. Hell, if you took what I pay in benefits and added it to what I pay in taxes, I probably pay that much anyway. We may enjoy our money and waste but there are other countries where the people take care of each other. There is something to say for peace of mind.
Just don't lose your job, if you are old enough to have one. Don't get sick, if you depend on your job for your insurance, and you just lost it. If you are married, and your spouse or children get sick, be sure not to lose that job that is paying for the health insurance. Or hope that your spouse is working, doesn't lose her job, and makes enough to cover you and the kids. In other words, don't live in the real world, unless you are lucky enough to have Mom and Dad leave you very well off, or won the lottery, or, through some miracle that doesn't show itself here, with all due respect, you're smart enough to have made enough money to be independently wealthy. Keep D&D Civil.
I'm not a fan of Perry, but I sure hope Bell doesn't get elected. I remember reading his website before the primary election, I disagreed with pretty much all of what his main goals listed were. Strange how now that it's general election time, he's taken off all the stuff from his site about being pro-abortion and supporting "gay marriage." Guess that was just pandering to get the nomination and now he's trying to appear more "mainstream" to get elected in the fall.
It would be funny if Chris Bell became governor and Nick Lampson won the 22nd... I mean funny for Tom Delay, I think.
What you have to accept is the "venom" will never be removed from Texas politics. Once you set that pipe dream aside you can then make an informed decision. This is my opinion. Getting Kinky's ideas "out there" is one thing. Just electing him governor would NOT be enough to get anything done in the legislature. A newly elected governor that won with <50% of the vote hardly has a mandate to pressure the legislature into action. For that matter, a governor with 60% of the vote has enough trouble getting the House to do anything. On destroying him, I assume you misunderstood what I'm saying. If he's elected, it will be with far less than 50% of the vote. This is a weakness. But his greatest weakness would be not having a built in support base in the legislature. If/when he says or does something to tick one side or the other off enough, they will destroy him while the other party stands on the sidelines and let's it happen. There will be no outcry from the public because ~60% of the people will not have even voted for him. The position of governor in Texas is very weak to start with. After the 1st, 2nd and 3rd time he opens his mouth and says something stupid or silly, his bully pulpit will be two inches tall. Voting for Kinky is a complete waste and if he's somehow elected it would be a complete disaster for the state. Like I said, the honeymoon would be very short and the public's "buyers remorse" would be severe. But don't worry, if he's close enough to Perry in the last 2-3 weeks to cause concern, they will chop him into wood chips and prove his campaign is a house of cards. Since Carol Keeton-Rylander-Strayhorn's campaign one tough failure, Chris Bell is the only hope to unseat Perry. Whether you like it or not, Perry and Bell are the only two candidates capable of (1) winning this election and (2) governing after being elected.
