I want to see who agrees. Carr looked good today. The sack where he tripped was the only blemmish I saw all day. Our defense sucked and our running game is atrocious. Also, I am not ready to jump on Kubiak and company just yet but the play calling when we had the lead was more suspect than the way Carr performed them. We lost momentum running on 3rd and 13.
yea seems like we got into "play not to lose" mode way way too quickly. We owned the momentum during most of the first half and then proceeded to blow it all rather quickly.
YOu can definitely see an improvement, but to me, there were flashes of the old Carr...YOu're right, you can't do a lot w/o a running game...Would Bush made a difference, I think a little, but overall, Carr just sucks...
I agree,,,the sacks really werent his fault i didnt see a time where he held on too long and got sacked..most were from the blind side where he should have gotten protection everyone saw what he could do when he got protection and without a running game
While I didn't get to see him (and that makes a difference), the numbers looked decent enough for a team that lost the time of possession battle and has a lame-assed excuse for a running game. 67%, over 6 yds per attempt, he had a 44-yarder and a 25-yarder and I think another 20+ yarder iirc. What did you see that looked bad?
Actually, there weren't any where he held the ball too long. Three were blown protection, two in MAX PROTECT. Yikes. One was an all-out blitz by the left side of the Eagles line with two guys hitting him. One was him just tripping that was on him. He did not hold the ball too long and he got rid of it when necessary. He made a couple of questionable throws, but I think a good example of his improvement was in the first half when he went on the bootleg, kept looking downfield but when he didn't see anyone, normally you'd see him take off. He didn't. He dumped it off to Johnson who got a first down. I can't remember a time when Carr didn't run a similar play and either force it into coverage downfield or try to run himself and get sacked or taken down for a short gain. I know people just hate him and that is just the way it will be until he proves consistency at his position. He deserves to get blame when he sucks, but today is not that day.
Let's not make excuses to soon no it was not just his fault today .Let's just wait an see i've said this before he has til week 4 to get it together then an only then will i start to put the blame on him.
I've always been supportive of him, but his release looks somewhat awkward, especially the short passes. The difference is quite obvious between their confidence in perspective. McNabb was firing passes left and right and carr was lobbing it for the most part. I think he's doing much better than the preseason and I think that the team needs more time to gel under this new offense.
His fifth year in the league and his improvement is the awareness to dump off passes in the flat? This guy was the first pick in the entire draft. I hope five years from now people aren't patting Mario Williams on the back for finally learning a swim move. I don't think anyone hates Carr. I think that a lot of people just feel that despite his impressive physical tools, he lacks a lot of the skills and intangibles necessary to lead a quality offensive attack. His pocket presence, his leadership skills, his recognition of the defense, etc. We all know Carr has a great arm and is very mobile but he had all that coming out of college. What else has he shown in 4+ years now that makes anyone think this guy is capable of leading a playoff caliber team?
Carr looked good, but Mario Williams only had three tackles and no sacks. I was expecting him to get about 5 or 6 tackles and at least 1 sack in the whole game and non preseason. I don't think he is a bust yet, but if this is all he does the whole season Houston fans will be pi$$ed.
Dont expect a DE to get that many tackles...thats too hard from that position. Julius Peppers has barely averaged more than 3 tackles a game in his career.
The loss is not entirely Carrs' fault, no doubt. However, the guy just does nothing to inspire his teamates, he is one of the worst leaders I have ever seen at the QB position. The guy just doesn't have it. Whenever he gets sacked, you can just see the wind going out of the team's sails....he has ZERO pocket presence, just look at Payton Manning last night scrambling around and releasing the ball on the run.......Carr....he just stands there like a deer in headlights. I think people are just hoping that Carr improves, and my take is that after 4 years, we have seen the best of David Carr.... DD
Yeah...it's not like Carr was the second leading rusher among QBs last season. I thought you had better things to do with your Sundays than watch the NFL? Oh, BTW, probably the dumbest sig ever.
Carr gets a pass from me because our o-line was clearly overmatched and he did OK when given time. I give him a C. We were facing an experienced, talented defensive team and it was our very first game under the new regime. It's possible this is the worst our offense will look the entire season. Blaming Carr for this slapdown reality check is silly. Let's be reasonable. Looking at the schedule, it looks rough. We play at Indy next week, then we play for 4 stout defenses in a row: Washington, Miami, Dallas & Jacksonville. It's likely we are looking at 0-5. I betcha by then, not even Kubiak will be sacred.
Philly,Indy,Washinton, Miami, Dallas, Jacksonville 0-6 At Tennesee, At The Giants, At Jacksonville 1-8 Buffalo, At the Jets (East Coast), At Oakland (West Coast) 2-10 It's going to get real ugly, the schedule maker stepped on out nuts.
I said it in the other thread, but if you're looking for a reason for the loss yesterday, blame the defense. Especially #21 Lewis Sanders. Carr didn't play that bad. It's not his fault the running game blew chunks.
they secondary can't stay with their man for 8 seconds everytime, even if they were all Deon Sanders. when our D-line isn't doing anything, it doesn't matter how good your secondary is. D-line's gotta at least get a sniff of the QB's buttcrack. otherwise, you might as well just let them walk into the endzone.
