I have seen get rid of Moochie, etc, but the Rockets have a real logjam at the "forward spots". Right now who would you cut to get down to the 12 regular season players. FREDTERP
You keep your team pretty much intact and put somebody on IR. Oh yea, Collier will start the season on IR. KT might even start on IR. Then you can keep folks for trade value to pick up some more big men later this season or next season. Oh yea, that is exactly what CD is going to do. I think CD is way ahead of us on this one. He is going to keep this team intact, since it'll be a respectable team, until he can pull off another miracle trade or acquisition. -krosfyah
KT might even start on IR. Let's hope you don't see many Rockets games. The chance of KT on the IR is roughly the same as the chance of Steve Francis being traded.
I can see Bullard spending some time on the IR until the Rockets feel they really need him, and maybe Collier if he isn't fully recovered yet.
Who would I cut? Hmn?, ... well is devon grey still on the books? If so I'd start there. If we look at the log jam at small forwards we might have to address that. To speculate a langhi at back up shooting guard is ridiculous. But saying Griffin is our answer at small foward is pushing it also, to me he looks better at the power foward. Los is all but released and Barkleys on the books but both he and Los are x'ed with grey. I would cut cato but someone decided he was worth some money, and it's stupid to throw money away. Even in the Maloney case, there is a backup point who is still earning way to much Rocket money, another reason not to give Mooch more than 750K - 1mill. So we have Cato at center, with Collier as a backup or even toss up. Mo T a starter at the four, with KT and Griffin as backups. Wiz, Lanky, Morris at the wing, I still think the Wiz should start there. Anderson and CAT at the two guard, I like them to split minutes there, and feel Shanndon offers a little more of what I like there. Steve at the point with some backup, maybe Mooch if the price is right ... a Colson may come cheaper or look to the developmental league for a new face. With a backup point that gives 12 on the roster, I need to make room for the Bull and that may be tough. It seems all feel it should be Walt that is moved, except for me, I might change my mind after preseason if Morris and/or Langhi proves there worth. As of now Bull is on IL, during a long nba season someone will go down and Bull will shine or at least three.
I wouldn't necessarily cut, but I would trade one of the two, Bullard or Walt. We can't cut both, cuz we need a 3 point specialist. Even if one of them leaves, are logjam at SF isn't resolved yet.
I dont usually comment on other posters, but I really like FREDTERP. He's my favorite new guy in a long time. I'd cut Maloney and Barkley first. Then, Bullard I suppose. Maybe Walt. I dont know. Good question.
12 players /2 IR =14 Cato/Collier/FA center Taylor/Griffin/Thomas/Bullard Anderson/Morris/Williams Mobely/Langhi/(Colson) Francis/Norris IR: two of (1) Colson (if he's signed instead of a center), (2) FA Center, (3) Williams, (4) Bullard, maybe (5) Langhi, or anyone actually injured What could change this is if they want to showcase someone as trade bait, such as Williams. It would not surprise me if there is a major trade before the winter deadline involving Williams, Thomas and perhaps Cato, depending on how he plays.
I have to agree with the ZRb here. Collier is just downright horrible and if he sees a fair amount of minutes this year that means the Rockets got swept down **** creek without a paddle, hell screw that, they'll have a hole in their canoe too. So hopefully Collier finds him self on the IR till his contract expires.
If I had to cut someone I would cut Collier as well, (I'd really just put him on the IR though) even if we don't get another center this offseason. I would rather see Kenny Thomas and Mo Taylor play backup center minutes than Collier.
Current roster Francis(special one of a kind player, silent team leader) Mobley(team's Vocal leader(heart) Griffin(could start with his rebounding skills alone) Taylor(needed 3rd option on offense) Cato(It's now or never) Moochie(needed reserve setup/ballhandler) Anderson(needed defensive specialist) Williams(2nd string due to experience, could end up in dog house) Thomas(only true PF on team that can bang inside) Collier(much needed but could end up on IR if not fully recovered) Colson(security for injuries) Langhi(deserves playing time) Morris(should fit great with rockets system) Bullard(Cheap and a true Vet(Guidence and Stability) I think we could have any one of the SFs(Bullard, Langhi, Morris, and Williams) and along with Colson on the IR when we are fully healthy at different times during the season. We'll need all of these players due to unexpected injuries during the season in my opinion. I still think we need another big man at center maybe through a trade.
I would think Morris or Bullard would be on the IR to start the year. You have to figure that someone is also going to be legitimately injured though, too.
If the roster stays the same and there are no new additions and they re-sign all there remaining free agents: 1. Steve Francis 2. Shandon Anderson 3. Cuttino Mobley 4. Maurice Taylor 5. Kelvin Cato 6. Eddie Griffin 7. Kenny Thomas 8. Walt Williams 9. Moochie Norris 10. Jason Collier 11. Dan Langhi 12. Terence Morris IR. Matt Bullard IR. Sean Colson
KT and Collier are both real candidates to start in IR. Remember KT got bit in the face by that dog. KT doesn't add much to this team until we start seeing some injuries mid to late season. Then KT has a lot to offer cause he is very serviceable. But he is not your ideal person at PF due to his lack of size. I like KT's hussle but he is a luxery to have on this team...not an integral part. Langhi has more upside potential but still more development. So I'd like to keep him. I also haven't seen any reason to keep Colson other than he's Stevie's buddy. I'd also trade Wiz in a heartbeat if we could get a servicable C. -krosfyah
I would cut the Wizard. Simply because of his "defense" sucks and his shooting showing up for about a fourth of the year.
Good post FREDTERP... I think it'll be very interesting to see what Rudy does to get his roster to a good 12 player rotation. Rudy will have some really tough choices to make. Tb-Cain, I think you're right on with your assesment of which 12 guys we'll go into the season with except I see Bullard cracking the top 12 before I see Walt doing it. I think Bullard is more consistant that the Wizard and actually, both might start the year in the top 12 with either of our unproven 3's starting the year on the IR (Langhi or Morris) and those two vets taking thier spots. What I want to happen is this (I hope you don't mind Tb-Cain but I just copied your 12 man list and made one change): 1. Steve Francis 2. Shandon Anderson 3. Cuttino Mobley 4. Maurice Taylor 5. Kelvin Cato 6. Eddie Griffin 7. Kenny Thomas 8. Jahidi White (Traded straight up for Wizard) 9. Moochie Norris 10. Jason Collier 11. Dan Langhi 12. Terence Morris IR. Matt Bullard IR. Sean Colson I wouldn't mind going into the season with those twelve guys... maybe sub Bull for T-Rock if he's not NBA ready. Good topic all...
