This started last week, for some reason I can't install or uninstall programs. (like games etc.). I don't understand what's going on. It seems there's an error with install shield wizard or something. It will start loading the setup process then just exit it in a flash. :(

    Any ideas?

    Winxp etc.

If it is XP go back and restore it to just before the problem started, should fix it.

    sounds like a spyware/hijacker.

run hijack this and make a backup. then delete what isn't supposed to be there. this should do the trick, but it would also be a good thing to run spybot search and destroy along with adaware.

If you are confused on the log of what to delete and what not to, the info tool is helpful.

Yeah, sounds like some spyware or virus. Also, check your services to make sure Windows Installer is running. This is needed for installing/uninstalling

Would that be under processes? i couldn't find it.

As for system restore, I haven't done that yet. It's going to be my next try to fix this. Also, I have scanned with Adaware, Spybot, and PC spyware doctor.

I can't seem to find anything of real note.

It's under Control Panel --> Administrative Tools

It should be set to "Startup Type - Manual".

MC Hammer? The "Texas Hammer"? Wrestling Great "The Hammer" Valentine?

I give. Hit it with a hammer, Uprising. :(

Seriously, though, you didn't try to update the installer? A link in another post tells you how.

    Maybe this might work: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/264647/en-us
Or search for it yourself at http://support.microsoft.com/.

    arkoe: ?
