I recently purchased some textbooks through half.com and have been ripped off twice now, paid for the books but didn't receive anything. The first time I filed a claim with half.com but the second one I have not done anything yet. The claim with half.com is still pending and may take up to 30 days before any action is decided. I purchased both with my debit card. I was wondering is there any type of action I can take through my bank?
Just a suggestion: speak to a real person at the so-called "half.com". If you can't solve it with them, the next step is your credit card company. Don't wait too long, though. In either case, try to solve it with them first, then call the Better Business Bureau and report the bad stuff even if they're not listed with the BBB. Should have learned your lesson the first time you got "ripped off", as you say. Hopefully everything works out for you, man. Care to explain what "ripped off" meant?
Had a similar problem with half.ebay.com xactions. Got one refund and lost $10 on the other. Now I only buy used from the amazon marpetplace, where I have not had a single problem, which may be because most of the sellers are in-it-for-the-long-haul businesses.
I thought I did learn my lesson the first time because I bought from a seller who had no feedback. The next time I bought from a seller with 100% positive feedback but then that quickly went downhill and now his feedback is 33%. I learned my lesson with half.com and will most likely never buy from there again. Ripped off. Didn't I say it in my first post? I paid for goods yet received nothing.
My wife uses Half.com all the time and has not yet had a single problem (so far as I know). Has she just been lucky so far?
Odd, I've bought lots of stuff from Half.com and never had any problems. Mostly movies and games, but some books as well.
Well I used them all the time but within the last month I have not received what I ordered on two out of 7 orders.
I never got the CD from the seller and I never got a refund. The seller did not respond to my or half's emails, i.e. he took the money and ran. I have ordered 40 or so CDs from half and had 2 problems fwiw. I did have another seller take 3 months to send me a CD. I wasn't happy but I got the CD.
Yes I have tried to solve it. I have contacted the seller numerous times without one response. Contacted half.com which they told me I have to wait for almost a month before filing a claim so I am waiting to do so with my 2nd one now. I am through with this site.
yea, NEVER make a purchase with a debit card if there is a possibility of this type of issue arising. Credit cards are always the way to go, especially online.
The Saturday before last I ordered all of my books off of Half.Com. Yesterday UPS came by with some or maybe all of my books, but I wasn't home to sign for them. I've heard some bad things about them too, but I can only hope that everything works out for the best. One of the strangest things I've seen being sold are solution manuals that are totaly electronic. I bought one for my Computer Applications for Engineering class, and it looks like just some random guy sending a pdf. of the book. Is this legal? I could just as easily "sell" my copy on the internet in the same fashion.
I tried selling some books on half.com once. It mostly went fine, but one guy bought a textbook of mine (that was accurately described and was listed by ISBN) right before a semester began. I sent it to him immediately. Near the end of the semester, I get a note from Half.com that this guy is returning the book to me because it was the "wrong one" and wasn't what was listed and that Half.com would be taking the price of the book plus return shipping from my account. Looking at the buyer's feedback, it turned out he did this sort of thing all the time. Bought books, used them for a while and then returned them claiming it was the wrong book. I protested and protested and protested, but the best I got was Half.com not taking the money out of my account. The dirty, filthy liar apparently got his money back (plus, the book was never returned to me, so I assume he got to keep it). Ever since then, I've found Half.com to not be worth the effort.
Try not to buy from people with low feedback percentages OR from people with a low number of total transactions. Buy from people that have a history of getting hundred or thousands of instances of good feedback.
