Awesome movie....I wasn't dissapointed in the least. Steve Carell and the son should get oscar consideration; they were unbelievable. Gregg Kinear probably doesn't get enough credit he deserves because he is always a solid actor.
Very solid movie. Definitely enjoyed it, but... It's my opinion that most of you guys really went overboard on your praise of it.
Saw it last week...hilarious movie, i was rotf especially at the end when her family decides to join the pageant
I thought it was funny too. However I also found it really really touching. I guess it made you realize no matter how screwed up your family is, they are still your family and will be with you through thick and thin. I took an extra moment to appreciate just how weird my family is and how much I love them for it.
I agree. It was a pretty good movie, with plenty of humor throughout. The "message" of the movie seemed a bit too obvious IMO. But the characters are great, and they really make the movie special. Worth seeing, but I wouldn't say it's the best movie I've seen in a long time or anything like that.
I guess, what I mean is that it doesn't seem like you could sit and debate about this movie a lot. It sort of puts everything out there for you. Everybody pretty much has their own individual tragedy over the course of the trip, and you expect the entire family to experience a big cathartic moment that brings them all together. Don't get me wrong, it's a good movie, and I enjoyed it, I just don't think that it's as great as a lot of people have said it is. Depends on how recent you mean. I'd say "United 93" was better. In the past year, I think "Brokeback Mountain", and several others from last year were better.
I agree. Not just the folks on this board, but all of my other friends who saw the movie went overboard as well. I did like it, and thought it was very good. If I hadn't heard any of the over-praise before I saw it, I wonder if I might not have liked it even more.
I think it is a movie that probably would be better seen w/o being aware of the hype surrounding it. I knew of it, saw the trailer and thought it looked really good, knew it had Steve Carell and Greg Kinnear and it got great reveiws on rottentomatoes...so basically about as much as any other movie. And I wasn't dissapointed. As I've said, the same thing (if not a little less) could be said of Napolean Dynamite. I saw it well after it came out wide and the hype machine was running full throttle so my expectations were pretty high and I was pretty dissapointed. It's not that I didn't like it. I just didn't get the fuss.
Twisted yet tender... an excellent flic. I really enjoyed the dark humor. Good plot, good characters, good acting.
Saw it last night with the gf.. I warned her it was a little, off the wall. On the whole i was a little disappointed, but satisfied. Too much hype imo.
That's exactly how I felt and the reason why I gave this movie an A+. This is one of those movies that you can't call a family movie by any means (language, theme, etc.) but really is indeed a great family movie.
just saw this movie. i was a bit bored the first half. not really many laugh out loud moments. Spoiler watching the girls in the beauty pageant dance around in a bikini was a bit uneasy.
