So was Rice better than expected or was UH worse than expected? Or a combination of the both?

I'm glad it was a good game, wish I had seen it.

I'd love to have some Houston teams do well. I respect the way Rice does things and their new coach seems like a good fit based on the interviews I'd heard. Houston is supposed to have a pretty good team this year.

I don't really follow c-usa, but might as well have a team from Houston win the conference.

Wow...my coogs barely pulled it out.

I think our offense is gonna score some points...but another year with a suspect defense

Rice could win 6 games this year...they really made us pay when we overpursued

Wow!!! I actually thought they lost...On the ESPN news ticker, at about 11, they had the score 27-14 rice, and I was PO'd...Good to see they squeaked one out...

Kolb had a less than Heisman performance, but its only the first game...He did have 3 TD's though...Another year of the Suspect D?

Props to Rice. Their coaching staff sniffed out our biggest weakness and attacked it very quickly.

The W is all that matters though, bring on Tulane.

Major Applewhite found a weakness in the Cougs defense and they attacked it with perfection for 1 quarter and the Cougars defensive coordinator countered it and they shut the Owls out for the rest of the way. Mike Krezesky and Jim Boheim could learn a lot from that fella.

Cougar mistakes kept Rice in the game, including Marshall catching the kickoff and stepping aout of bounds on the 2, which then allowed Rice to score from close. Although I have no ties to either team, I wanted Rice to show some heart, and that they did. Kolb will not win the Heisman like that... he had a receiver WIDE WIDE OPEN about 3 or four times and neither time threw it to him... I think it was Marshall. I am glad Vegas was wrong, Major.

I'll root for Rice in the rest of thier games. Love to see both teams in a bowl.

UH's defense was dire last night, but whatever, I'll take the win.

I was at the game and let me tell you it was disgusting to watch.
I figured the Coogs would win something like 52 - 17,as they have improved across the board especially in the lines.
After we went up 14 - 0,I'm thinking we're on course.Well Rice makes adjustments and Briles and his defense were helpless to stop them.UH wore them down at the end of the game, but this doesn't feel like a W.Lots of bad playcalling, officiating, and a definite lack of fire.I thought this Cougar team would win 7 -9 games. Now,who knows?

and lack of execution on both sides of the ball.
    Kolb was atrocious.

    230 yards
    3 tds
    0 ints
    63% completion percentage

that stat line is pretty solid.

he missed some wide open guys, but rice kept the heat on him.

if he makes 2 of those throws to an open #82 he'd have about 320 yards and 5tds.. but oh well. onward and upward.

Agreed...I think the play calling sometimes is suspect, but Briles has definitely brought some excitement...Ok, Kolb didn't bring his A game, but at least he gets it out of the way early...He wants to be at full throttle by the end of the season...

    Bring on Tulane...

Don't want to give the wrong impression guys.As Major Mal knows I'm passionate about UH.

Kolb just wasn't sharp at all and there wasn't any confidence given to him by Art to go vertical to Harvey or Marshall. In fact when he came out and started making good reads all over the field,I thought, here we go.It's 14 -0 and the Coogs haven't even opened it up.
And the defense was dominating, then came the adjustments.

Overall,Art has us headed in the right direction for sure, but expectations are getting higher(and that's a good thing).

On Kevin,I have full confidence over the season.

And UH now finally has beasts for tackles. One is a freshman. These guys are huge and mobile.

OK,I'm still thinking 7 - 9 wins, but that was sort of brutal.UH should always be in contention or downright control this weak conference.I've watched the fall from 76 - 81 to where we've been relegated now and it's tough to take.
    Thanks Miss Richards.
    Still believin...
    Go Coogs!

One last thing on Kolb.Do you guys think Kevin is good enough to carry a clipboard in the NFL?I kinda think so_On some days he looks like even more, just NOT LAST NIGHT.

OMT That staline is sort of misleading IMO.There were some bad decisions made out there Saturday.... and really poor execution.

I'm not really worried about the offense that much.....It's the D. The strange thing is I believe it to be capable of a much higher level of play by the end of the season.
I would not want to play us at the end of the year assuming all are relatively healthy.

Yeah, it's misleading in the sense that had he completed the passes he SHOULD have completed on any regular day his statline would have looked something like this..

    Yards 412
    TDs 5
    Ints 0
    Comp. 75%
