Gary Kubiak announced Saturday that running back Domanick Davis has been placed on injured reserve, causing the Texans' returning rushing leader to miss the entire 2006 season.

    The ENTIRE Season???
QUESTION: not that I want it to happen . .but why would they not just cut him?
I thought that was the big thing about the NFL
    and
    their contracts

If you are placed on the IR, you are automatically out for the season. That is how the rule works in the NFL.

If Domanick Davis hadn't passed his physical before training camp, he would have been eligible to go on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list and would have missed the first 6 weeks of the season before being re-evaluated.

At that point, if he had been ready to return, the Texans would have added him to their activer roster while releasing another player. If he hadn't been ready to return, he would have been placed on the IR at that point in time. Davis must have told Kubiak that the chances of him returning before Week 7 were not very good.

With all that said, we'll be fine with our young trio of Lundy, Morency, and Taylor.

Totally forgot about him. Good riddance from the Texans. Have better luck elsewhere.

There's no room on the roster for him.

I can't find where I read it, but I understand that, Houston essentially couldn't cut Davis without worrying about him filing a grievance. I think I read it on ESPN.

Charles Rogers also was cut today. I know he has been banged up alot, but the guy was the #2 pick in the draft.

Maybe a change of scenery is all he needs. Would you guys pick him up and cut Walker or Lewis?

He also has been suspended for drugs in the past.

Wow...as good as our running game has looked so far in the preseason, there are still gonna be people out there hoping the running game fails so that they can feel good about themselves calling out the Texans management for not drafting Bush over Williams.

How about the wait and see approach once in a while?

Ron Dayne was cut today from the Broncos.

I wonder if Kubiak has any interest in him. He was hurt for much of the pre-season which allowed rookie Mike Bell and second year player Cedric Cobbs to pass him up on the depth chart. Shanahan had actually named Dayne the starter over the summer.

He showed promise when he filled in for Mike Anderson toward the latter end of last season. I've heard the reason he was successful in Denver while otherwise flaming out in New York is because Dayne ran the ball in the same exact system as Denver when he played college ball at Wisconsin.

Rotoworld Link: Kubiak likely to have interest in Dayne

Just a little food for thought.

And I hope we throw Charles Rogers a bone.

Can the Texans call "Do-Over" for the 2006 draft?

Not that I really care. I can't wait to play the Texans again and pay back the debt from the first meeting. Go Cowboys!

Your running back are now belong to us! (us=cowboys)

Texans will smash the Cowgirls again and you will have to suffer another 4 years.

This is a good move for both. DD gets a chance to get 100%. The Texans get a chance to see what Morency and Lundy can do. I wish he was healthy enough to play because he could go for 1500 yds in this system. They'll still be fine without him.

With Davis salary I had heard somewhere that it would have hit the Texans cap hard if they released him.

Kubiak is really cleaning house on the players from the previous regime.

What is it like to be a fan of a team that has no shot at making the playoffs?
