I saw a tv special once, talking about a controversial practice that some college pitchers are trying to have Tommy John surgery without any need for it. Supposedly your elbow becomes stronger and more durable after the rebuild.

I'll do some searching and try to find something on it.

Tommy John surgery is something that was career-ending a decade ago, but the advancements in medical technology are staggering. Pitchers routinely recover from this now, and there's a real chance the old Brandon Backe could be back in April of 2008.
