Don't know if it has been posted yet and I know it's not new news, but here's an article I found on NBA.com just now...
thanks alex i'd been keen on hearing how this was progressing. Wesley will probably have a career year in Cleveland just to piss us all off. good luck to him.
Wesley to Cleveland I haven't seen anything about this so if its redundant, you know what to do. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/scorecard/09/01/truth.rumors.nba/index.html According to team sources, free-agent guard David Wesley is expected to take a physical in Cleveland today, and if everything checks out, he will likely sign a one-year deal with the Cavs over the weekend. -- Akron Beacon Journal I thought he was going to retire but if he can still squeeze out another season I am glad hes going to Cleveland. A) Possible Contending team B) Eastern Conference (not that I'm worried about D-Wes tearing us up if we met him 4 times a year I just hate seeing former Rocks on other team, especially western conference) Good luck David!
YES!!!!! I can't tell everyone how happy I am to finally get rid of this guy. I think he was a very serviceable player in his prime, but he's nowhere close to that right now, and our backcourt will be much improved w/out him... especially with the additions. I hope we're not getting our hopes up too high for VSpan
Wesley is a super nice guy, a fine fellow, and in his prime a good player. BUT, I just could not stand another year of watching him "brick" critical shots. As hard as worked, he was typically overmatched on defense. He gave his all, and I wish him all the best. JVG must have loved the guy because he got major mininutes and many of them were painful to watch.
Wesley is a class act and I wish him luck. He indeed was overmatched on defense because of his size, but lets not underate his defense. For his size, he is a godd man to man defender. Not so much on help d tho. He was a crucial part of our playoff run when he got traded here. Now we'll get to see if Snyder really wants to be an integral part of our organization or not.
IMO Wesley was the best acquisition made in the JVG era. 16 months ago we didn't notice he had one good leg or had suddenly become old. Nor did we see that Sura had two real games left in him once the playoffs started or that JB was so worn out. Wesley is the most tragic pinata of the Mav's series but I firmly believe JVG should have known better (than we), played guys fewer minutes in a meaningless winning streak to end the season, and realize the game 7 blowout in Dallas wasn't a distinct possibility. But I know I (probably JVG too) wish Wesley all the best. He's a class act.
I remember how stunned everybody was when Jim Jackson was traded away for Wesley. I think JJ had just scored 24 points in his last game as a Rocket. The next game at Milwaukee the team was in a daze and got waxed by 30 points. People were whining loudly about why we got rid of such a solid rotation player. It took a while, but most of us realized that moving Tracy to SF full-time was the right move.
Thank you David Wesley for your great services to the city of Houston. Wesley was a class act. I remember him giving his all in the events of Katrina and on the court. This guy played with his heart. He challenged every shot and sink down FTs and threes when we needed them. I know i won't forget the dagger 3s he nailed against teams. Every time we were up by 6 or 7 and needed to break the game away, he would step up and hit the three. Thanks for all the memories.
Underrated defender of the year in the 2004-05 season. Great strength, balance and kept up with quick guards. I think he kept everyone under their scoring average and average FG% with the exception of Ricky Davis, who went off on him a couple times.
You point out one of JVG's patented shortcomings - he was too focused on intellectual understanding of the x's and o's to realize his over 30 players were human beings and needed to be rested in anticipation of the playoffs. So he could not bring himself to play a larger rotation of players and thus actually help the team by giving some of the other players more experience and a chance to develop chemistry with the main rotation. And th old guys a chance to rest. JVG is very bright in a mechanical type of way - he is like one of those guys who grew up in the 50's and then 40 years later is still using Brylcreem slicking his hair back, and rolling his cigs up inside the sleeve of his white undershirt..... Hey at least he publicly admitted that not resigning Scotty was a mistake - which means he also is tentatively admitting that Rybo should have been our 16th man - meaning not resigned..... Perhaps old dinosaurs can learn new tricks - we just need to increase the speed of mental evolution. That might be the new GM's job - to teach JVG how to adapt to the current rules and style of play.
Is this the first thread in the history of this forum actually moved to the GARM, instead of away from the GARM?
