I think if Baghdatis didn't hurt his leg in the final games of the 5th, he would have won that match. Baghdatis seemed to be hitting the ball crisper towards the end until his injury. After that several unforced errors and service errors, etc...

Where did my US Open thread go? That was a truly epic thread. ;)

Nah Agassi should have ended it in the 4th being up 4-0. He started to let off a bit and Baghdatis took advantage of it.

Bags fell into the early trap of trying to outbash Andre instead of moving him left and right and back and forth to test that back of his. He thought he could outhit Andre and that backfired for about 2 sets. He started to get his game back but he was in a hole. Needed some help from Andre and stepped up his game enough to seize the 3rd and come back in the 4th. After that though the cramps took it's toll but Andre should have put it away in the 4th so both sides had demons to fight. Both were deserving of the victory though.

Incredible match. I think Agassi's nerves are really getting to him. It must be crazy playing in fornt of 21K fans screaming for you, and you know that this may be your last match as a pro. Daunting to say the least. Plus, Bags was playing out of his mind. His gorund strokes are solid and very deep.

you know, that's what agassi does to an opponent. at 36, he's still doing it. he likes to play long rallies, from side to side, etc. pretty soon you either too tired to move or you injure youself.

sounds like the match of the tournament so far. I'm sorry I missed this one.

I have always disliked Andre, but on his last trouney I have been kind of pulling for him.

I have never understood the phrase " I could care less".

I used to always think it was I "couldn't care less"

doesnt the former imply you actually do care somewhat??

Hewitt sneaking through unscathed. Bad knee and all. Into the 3rd round w/out dropping a set.

Wait til he plays someone good though.

I picked up on this match in the 2nd set last night and it was absolutely insane. I ended up not doing any homework because I couldn't turn off the television. The crowd was absolutely nuts and Baghdatis was very gracious in the end. One of the best sporting games I've seen.

Did anybody catch the post-match solute by Mikhail Youzhny yesterday on TV? The 24-year old journeyman from Russia upset the No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal in their quarter-final match. Youzhny's style of play reminds me Guga. In this day and age, you don't see it very often.

Tonight's match between Federer and Blake should be a good one. Blake has been playing his best tennis lately. Federer is still Federer. I wish Blake to set some example for Amercian men's tennis, sorry to Roddick fans. Federer remains my favorite player, although I really like to him serve and volley more. It's rare for me not sure whom to root for in a much anticipated match in Grand Slams, the last few of times of the similar situation I could think of were '92 US Open Final between Edberg and Sampras, Krajicek vs Sampras in '96 Wimbledon Quarter , and again in '00 US Open Quarter.

Where are all CF tennis fans tonight?

Blake won the 3rd set, the first ever in his career agaist Federer.

The match is just getting interesting ...

    Gotta love Blake's determination.

I caught the tail end of the 3rd set when Blake was 2 games down and won a break. You could tell the crowd was getting to Federer in that game.

Almost got Federer in the 4th set too. John McEnroe even commented Federer was choking after he sprayed his forehand wide in back-to-back match points. Could be in for a long night if Blake broke again. In the end, though, Federer was just a little too much for Blake. The better player won. There is little doubt I was rooting for Blake after the 1st set.

Amelie Mauresmo is a DUDE. Thats all I really know about tennis. If she's not a dude now then she was once a dude, or at the very least she is VERY dude-ish. I can't watch her play tennis without getting the strange feeling a nut is fixin to pop out at any minute. I hope Sharapova beats her tomorrow.
