Grounder to the 1st basemen...he caught while his foot was on the bag...so he tagged the base taking away the force at home...no tag, no out....and score.

Huff had a shot at 1st base caught by 1st basemen he tags base and throws to home thinking he has force out but for some reason it doesn't count and Lamb is safe?

If it was caught on the fly and then the 1st basemen stepped on 1st, wouldn't it be a DP, or was it a ground ball. Heads up baserunning by Lamb.

There was no force at home because he touched the bag at 1st base first. The runners didn't have to advance then, so the catcher had to make a tag.

What is this... rules night?!? ;)

It was a GROUND BALL to first base... the first baseman, instead of throwing home for the force out, stepped on first base.

Once that happens (first baseman stepping on first base, forcing the batter out), none of the runners have to move anywhere... and if they do, they have to be TAGGED out. There are no more force outs (since the runners don't techincally have to advance).

Thus, the Brewers handed that run to the Astros when they stepped on first base right away.

It was a sharp ground ball. 1st basemen fields it and steps on the base. Huff (the hitter) is out. 1st basemen then throws to home, but no tag is applied to runner (Lamb). He slides in safe.

There was confusion because the catcher thought it was a force out at home, but it wasn't. Once the automatic out is recorded on Huff, everything else has to be a "tagged" out because the runners have the option of going back to their respective base.

We aren't chasing the Reds anymore (even though we have to leapfrog them)... we're now techincally chasing the Padres for the WC race.

Looking at the teams in front of us, it really would be a shame for the 'Stros to miss out on the postseason. I think they'd make the best use of the WC and would have the best team built for the postseason. But that's just a homer's viewpoint.

That's the guy who hit that umpire with a bat in the minors and got suspended. 1st 2 games he's 4 for 6. 1HR 4RBI. Impressive.

I think its pretty much ESPN, SI, and everybody else's viewpoint as well... the Astros are the most dangerous team of anybody in the NL once they get to the playoffs due to their pitching... but they have to get there first.

Lets face it... the league is mediocre, and we're playing right into that mess. Had this team been forced to push themselves (as they were the last two years), maybe they already go on a great run. We all know they play best when they HAVE TO play the best... I hate that, everybody hates that, but unfortuantely that's the only way this team responds.

The bottom line is that this year's World Series, more than ever, is the AL's to lose... no matter which of the AL teams is represented... thus, anything we can accomplish if we get to the playoffs is pure gravy.

True, but we still need to look at the other 4 teams in front of us, (San Diego, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, and Florida), so any losses by those teams is gravy. (Plus we're tied with San Fran right now.)

Still, we were looking up at nine teams to pass a week ago. Nice to see we leapfrogged 5 teams in 7 days.

Yea... agreed... I was just saying that we don't have to go all-out and only monitor the Reds scores.

We need to be watching San Diego (especially since we don't have any more games with them). We still have all 6 games with Philadelphia, we have 3 more games with the struggling Reds, and Florida should drop of soon (although, they're going to be super-dangerous by next year... an amazing story).

Everybody says how hard it is to leapfrog teams... but you can do a lot of damage in a league that basically plays .500 ball when you win most of your remaining games (which is what the Astros are striving to do).

I understand how the play happened, but how close was Lamb to being tagged if the catcher had tried? Would he have been out if the catcher were aware or was he likely to score anyway?
