Yao finds harsh language at home
Center should return to Houston on Sept. 6

    By FRAN BLINEBURY
    Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle

SAITAMA, JAPAN - Just say that the Chinese media didn't give Yao Ming and his teammates a warm welcome home after their 95-64 clubbing at the hands of Greece in the first elimination game.

"Suicide!" screamed the Titan Sports newspaper in a front-page headline. That was after China blew a 27-17 lead and was outscored 50-15 through the end of the third quarter.

"There's nothing strange about Asian champions losing to European champions," declared Titan Sports. "But the Chinese team should have picked this 'suicidal' way to lose."

Beijing News, a tabloid, said excessive worship of Yao Ming was a reason for the team's eventual failure, exhausting Yao to the point where he could no longer play a key role.

The News pointed to Yao's taking just five shots in the last game. The News did not point to the utter collapse of the Chinese backcourt, which was unable to get the ball to Yao, who is scheduled to return to Houston on Sept. 6.

I dont know. The fact that Chinese are disspointed at the loss to Greece is not news, nor is it suprising.
If Fran was driving at Chinese media are disspointed in Yao, then it's a weak argument, just based on quotes from a newspaper and a tabloid.

China's defense was just horrible. Last in the tournament in defensive efficiciency, and by far the worst in forcing turnovers. They need to get some guards who can defend on the perimeter if they hope to advance any further. There's only so much Yao can do.

no fast break points, no easy points. They gave up tons of those points to opponents. Bfore they can fix this, it's beyond Yao.

    Blinebury was utterly mis-informed.

Like what was reported and showed in photos of most Chinese websites, Yao Ming was given a hero's welcome, as fans and media waited at the airport to greet him. Everyone knows it is not his faults. He had tried and given his best efforts in spending 4 long months to rehabilitate from his left foot surgery to be playing for China in the World Championship, even he was not 100% top fit. He's done his part with his performance. He is still the top scorer and shot blocker of this tournament, and even China is ousted from the Finals, I think the chance for Yao Ming to be selected into the World Championship All Stars Team 1 is still high.

And Blinebury should check again on Yao Ming's return date. Returning to Houston on September 6 ? That should be the date that he set for flying Shanghai from Beijing. He said he is going to spend his 26th birthday (which is Spetember 12) in Shanghai before returning to Houston.

Fran Blinebury ALWAYS gets pwned. Yi JianLian is listed as 19 years old, but Fran Blinebury claimed Yi told Shane Battier he's really 24 years old. HA HA HA! Yea right! Yi JianLian doesn't speak English, since when did Shane Battier understood Chinese? And out of EVERYONE, why would Yi just go up to Shane Battier and tell him he's really 24 years old? Yea right! All made up bull**** lies from Fran Blinebury. I just busted his ass out for talking straight out of his ass!

I just OWNED Fran Blinebury! :D

Last time I checkd, Yao said he will come back here AFTER his 26th Birthday, which is Sep/12. Is Yao's plan officially changed or it's just his imagination?

If China wants to go much higher than the 8th place they got in 2004 in 2 years, the only way I see them doing it is by going the way of Qatar's national team: get some decent American guards to convert to Chinese nationality by offering them a bunch of money or some other perk. Maybe John Lucas will do it, he's still poor.

that's all we've been saying since yao was a rookie. use yao for the important things like the olympics. don't bother him every year with the asian games and other little tournaments.

What, you're telling me they're bringing Yao to play the All-asian games???

That's criminal act for a player like him, it will wear him down for NBA even, eventually. The rest of the team should start playing and winning alone. It will build them some character and they might even stop relying on him to do most of the work.

No he will not play in the Asia game in Dec. He would be playing for rockets at that time.

Oh by the way Dirk finished with 15 pts on 3-12 shooting and 5 tos when he faced the USA team lead in defense by Battie. So one super star is useless againt high quality teams. Wade was even worse, 1-11 3pts. I think Miami should trade him to rockets asap.

According to Sinasports, Battier denied it: "no, it is not true. I do not know how old he is".

 They're talking about playing him all 40 minutes that wore him out. It's not related to how many games he plays in the summer.
