    Dear rookie,

Kobe is sitting at home. Gasol has been part of the World Championship. So, I meant Gasol.

    Sincerely,
    Don Grahamleone

i think a lot of us have been making the same mistake. We rate vspan by his stats. HE is the real ultimate team player, with spectacular defence.

yeah, i'm not hoping for 15ppg scorer. just someone who will bring energy to the floor and play hard. i think that is what we were lacking last season. that and yao and tmac....

Very well said. My only problem with Vspan is his atrocious 3 pt shooting in the WC's. His shot seems to come from in front of his face and I have never seen a good 3 point shooter shoot that way. Also there is not much arc on it, if it's any consolation it seems like most of the Greek players shoot that way and so maybe it is a learned habit that can be retaught. Let him spend some after practice time with Novak working on his shot and maybe he can straighten it out. One other thing to note is his percentage seems to improve the more pressure the shot, the same goes for his free throw shooting. I think that's were the KillBill stuff comes from.

V-Spans shooting is definitely suspect. Everytime I see his line in a game, he has a low 3pt shooting percentage. If he brings these numbers to the NBA, Rox fans are going to be b****ing about his outside shot by January.

I' m not worry about VSpan at all , particularly about his shooting touch. I've no doubt he will spend an enormous amount of time working on it. You know how I know? Yao happens ! That's how.

VSpan is a smart guy and he will recognize, when playing with Yao the open looks will be there on a nightly basis, as opponents double&triple teamed Yao. VSpan has no choice but to improve on his shootings if he wants to stay on the floor. Yao's work ethics will also rubbed off on Vspan.

The things I really like about VSpan are the things that you can't really teach like hearts and toughness. Either you have them or you don't. This Rocket team can use some of it right now. From what I can tell by watching a few games that VSpan played, he seems to be fearless and that's exactly what we need.

I think Yao just got a new best friend!

people finally realizing that he will make a diff

I think Battier and VSpan will make a big diff next season

and with Yao and Mac there are not many teams who could stop us

    believe it!

I watched a lot of Vassilis and I'm reasonably surprised. He seems to have a confident style in the way he gets up & down the court. I love his ability to put the ball on the floor and just manuever his way to the basket, oh I loved it a lot, I just wish we will see it.

However, with Van Gundy still here, I don't think he'll see much or any playing time unless he becomes a defensive force. As for position, I don't seem him as a "true" pg, I see him as another ball-handler with the ability to play 2,3 positions and a good 1 on 1 skills, not great, but good.

I think he just meant that Yao wouldn't be outscored by Gasol in terms of NBA PPG average. I'm pretty sure he just threw Kobe's name in there (along with his phrasing) for the sake of a joke.

KB's got a bit of John Stockton(actually using this as a compliment here) in him.One can't help but notice the hard nose attitude and his passing is EXTREMELY underrated.
Now,the change of speed, the acceleration, the crossover,I'm beginning to think he will get in the lane regularly. Also he had the ball up on the board a few times where it would have been goaltending in the Association.KB will get into his opponents in the NBA to create space more than in the WC where he can blow by everybody. His toughness should land him at the line quite a bit.Regardless of whether VS is a 1,a 2 whatever, methinks he'll be making his 3 yr/5mil deal a bargain.I know he hasn't played in an NBA game, but watching the World Championships, you could tell in what minutes he did get,the guy was on another level.KB was always in during crunch time and delivered daggers(most from outside) reguarly. He even D'up,overplayed passing lanes..Great job CD!
BTW...trying to think of another driver/slasher with those passing skills from the past to compare him to.I think we might have a stud point guard...at the very least a solid rotation player.

Agreed, but we'll just have to wait and see. If he pans out in the NBA like he does in the international games, he could be the missing guard piece that pushes us over the edge. All we'll need then is another solid poward forward, and man the 4 by commitee (assuming Hayes never develops a 15ft jump shot).

Uhm....you cannot seriously use this comparison. John Stockton is probably the best pure point guard to ever play the game of basketball, second only to Magic Johnson well because he is a 6'-9" freek of nature...but I digress

Dude I watched Michigan State take out Larry and the rest of the Sycamores oh so long ago......and I agree that the Magic Man is the best pg ever.
As for two,Oscar Robertson would have to be in the coversation. As a pure point guard though Johnnyboy could do it to it.
    I'm sorry,I digress,
Did I say KB is or ever will be even close to Stockton in the pantheon of point guards? No.
I said he has a "BIT" of Stock in him. What I meant is that there are elements of VSpans' game that remind me of Johnnyboy.
Such as great courtvision and the ability to convert.Yao and Tracy are going to love this guy.(and vice versa)
There is also a competetive fire that burns brightly in both of these guys which manifests itself on the court.Floorburns, clutchplays, great passes....All symptoms of that species, the Gymrat.

should I say traits of the Gymrat...I just think these guys have a fierce determination...a will to push the envelope.
