I wrote in thread #20472 that we need to get rid of Cato because he's going to be a negative influence. Of course, we may not be able to..... Names mentioned as centers for the Rockets next season include: Kelvin Cato: We'll be lucky if he logs 1700 minutes for us between the injuries and the fouls. Few skills, no evidence that he has the ability or will put in the effort to achieve his only stated goal: to lead the league in rebounding. Jelani McCoy: Forward who would be out of position at center and fighting MT, KT, EG, WW, SA, MB, and DL for minutes. Logged just 331, 746, and 1143 minutes in three seasons. Jahidi White: Trade unlikely to happen. Logged just 191, 1537, and 1609 minutes in three seasons, not much better that Cato. Marc Jackson: Young, promising, but unproven. His only season was marred by injuries. Jason Collier: Ditto, but less promise and more injury. So, do we enter the season with Cato and Collier and center? Do we risk another big Cato contract on an unproven player just to say we have a center? Or do we take a fly on someone from the summer leagues? In their reviews of the Rocky Mountain play, BBSers gave Venson Hamilton grades of B, C+, B-, and B. And DarkHorse wrote: "he's a good interior defender, and he's get's his fair share of rebounds." Jonathan Griffin wrote in one review:
Although it will only be Langhi/Griffin/Morris on the squad next year, I really hope Sneed/Jensen/Hamilton get picked up by some other teams. They really deserve a shot at a roster spot and unfortunatley for us it will not be with the Rockets.
Well, without Hakeem, there's another spot on the roster, and a glaring donut hole in the middle. What do people think? Can Hamilton log some minutes at center for the Rockets?
If the Rockets don't trade for a center, then I hope they at least give Venson Hamilton a chance to make the team. He is 6'11" with long arms and plays good defense. I know it sounds like Cato, but Vens hustles and rebounds. Maybe Rudy can use Vens to show Cato how the center position is played.
OK then. I love a bet. If Kelvin Cato starts and is not injured a month into starting, I'll eat Davo's shoes.
I had always thought of Venson as a PF, but if he could play C, he'd be worth having. I REALLY liked him out of Nebraska, and he could be a solid backup in this league. Anyone thought of bringing Pig Miller back again? Just a thought. Oh, and can we hold you to that crispee?
Why does this board love Hamilton so much? The guy didn't play more than minutes a game at the Rocky Mountain Review, how is he going to get meeningful minutes in a real NBA game? j
"Anyone thought of bringing Pig Miller back again? " I read somewhere that Pig has been in contact with the Rockets about playing this year. Most likely on a 10 day contract when needed.
Dude, what is your deal? Why don't you just type like normal people, and lose the act . . . Bob -- that is good news IMO -- I was a bit worried that there was something wrong when we renounced him last year after signing him for the full season. I figured we'd probably keep him around at least on the IR in case we needed him again. Glad he didn't go Thomas Hamilton on us.
And Stan Roberts. "Rudy better be careful playing Roberts and Hamilton at the same time, if they're on the same side of the floor, it could tip over." Either Calvin Murphy or Bill Worrell
