Shaq faded because he couldn't hit a free throw. Z faded because he got scared and was trash throughout the playoffs. Look at his field goal% for a guy with so many offensive rebounds, it's atrocious.

Yao is neither, he would be great since the US team has struggled to score in the halfcourt. It's not like they're averaging 120 a game on fast breaks.

The US team is committed to running and playing at a fast pace, because developing a methodical half-court game requires a lot more preparation. The biggest edge the US team has over the rest is their speed and quickness. Yao just wouldn't fit. Maybe he'd help defensively, but I don't think the US team would (or should) slow down the pace and play inside out. That might be a sound strategy in the NBA, but not for this team in FIBA basketball.

I think this is straying off topic.

    My message to the writer.......

Well, judging by your positional rankings at center it couldn't be more obvious you haven't seen Yao Ming play enough.

The point that you are neglecting is Yao is the best center in the NBA. Ranking Shaq #1 by default is an insult to the intelligence of your readers--it's just simply not true anymore.

Amare will never be the same nor is center his natural position.

....and Dwight Howard might end up being better than Yao eventually, someday, maybe....but right now?! Give me a break man.

Yao is one of the most unguardable players in the league right now. If it weren't for the "double front" or former illegal defenses he see's on a nightly basis he might average 30 PPG blindfolded. He's improved every year he's been in the league, he's still young and will only get better.

This is garbage. Yao no.4??? I can see Amare ranking higher than yao, but definitely not D.Howard. Many experts are predicting that yao will become the best centre in the next year or so. No star to this article.

You can see Amare higher than yao. Are you alright? Amare did not play a single game last season and whether he will be as good as he is before the injury is still a question.

A healthy 2004-05 Amare isn't better than the Yao of now. Amare has spacing to work with Yao could only dream of. His defense is non-existant and his rebounding rate in 2004-05 was a pathetic 13.2, the stuff Juwan Howard is made of. Even with Phoenix's system inflating his PER, Amare still only came out 0.9 ahead of the 2005-06 Yao. The only advantage Amare has on Yao is his off the ball movement, again emphasized by a system that encourages movement.

Don't put too much stock in his writing and basketball knowledge...or lack thereof...

But to his credit, he did give me a good laugh..

tony mejia is full of sht that guy knows nothing about basketball. he was one of those people who gave us an F for trading gay and getting novak. yao was the ONLY center last year to average 20 10 at any point during the year. Shaq couldnt do it. Amare has NEVER averaged more than like 7 rebs his entire career. And dwight howard has an average offensive game, last time i checked Mehmet Okur plays center and scores more points than this guy.

Rockets' opposing teams never gear up on defense to focus on Yao...ONLY SHAQ????? Crap!!! Teams around the NBA consistently change their defensive schemes to account for Yao's offensive dominance. He is frequently fronted and triple-teamed. And hack-a -Yao wont bother him as he can shoot the freebies. Who ranked these boys anyway was it that idiot Mejia...his columns are weak regurgitated versions of everything else that he has read. He has no cred as far as I'm concerned.

Ok, everyone is entitled to their opinion, or can form one anyway, but I can't believe that Howard is on that list. Moreso cause he's ranked higher than Ming. That guy watches BB less than I am apparently(and I rarely watch it anylonger).

Maybe it's a way to attract publicity?

That's kind of silly. That's not a point; it's an opinion.

At this point I find it insulting even to put Shaq in front of Yao. The guy strolls through half the regular season and has a few timely playoffs games (completely dissappears in others), sinks one important free throw in the playoffs while being carried by Dwayne Wade and sports writers are still falling all over themselves to kiss his huge over-sized rear end. Until he broke his foot Yao was playing at the highest level of any center in the NBA, period. I realize we didn't make the playoffs and the argument could be made that if he was that dominant he could of put the whole team on his back. But, even Dream couldn't have taken Howard, Bogans, Head and Alston to the playoffs. Man will this season start already? Nutz to all the Yao haters, this will be his season that the begin to talk about Shaq in the past tense.

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read.....Who gives a F$#@ what this guy thinks....even Hakeem didn't get all the credit he deserved a few seasons....ie. the year Robinson won MVP and then Hakeem Whooped him in the WCF.....writers have always been biased agasint the Rockets...oh well, let the whole league think like this guy, and we'll sneak up on everybody since nobody expects anything out of us....
