What strikes me about the Dominick Davis situation is that he brings so much more to the team than Antowain or Chris Taylor. I hope DD and Kubiak can work it out this week and we keep him. He is a much needed offensive weapon.

Regarding Derick Armstrong, this is from the Texans official site: LINK

    --------------------------------------------------------------------
Kubiak is using the same mentality for all positions and that is how he explained fourth year veteran wide receiver Derick Armstrong dismissal from the team.

“When I look at a third, fourth, fifth wide receiver on a football team, I have something I expect out of them to do for the team,” Kubiak said. “I think they have to be big role model players on special teams. I think they have to be big interchangeable parts every game week. From a game plan standpoint I think they have to be able to play a lot of spots and I think some of these young kids give us the ability to play those roles. I’m not a guy that thinks that every guy has to have a specialty. I think everybody’s got to contribute. I do think Derick has fine hands, he does a good job of getting the ball. He’s a good possession player, but when I think of the situation of the things these young kids can do for our team, that was a riding factor and I told him the same thing today. Can he play in this league? Yes he can and he’s proven that and he did everything we asked.”
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
Sounds like maybe Derick didn't stand out on special teams (to Kubiak) like some of the young guys did, and with Moulds and Walter now there's no room for a fourth WR without swiss army knife abilities. Props to Kubiak for cutting him early on so he can try to stick on a WR-poor team.

based on what I've seen, I'd personally rank armstrong below walters, anderson and lewis. I'm ok with the cut, and this allows another team to get a good look at armstrong.

He didn't even get drafted in my league. I'm all for cutting him, I think he's overrated and injury prone. He has had a few solid games, but never impressed me. He's not really a power runner or a speed guy, he's just an average back who was part of a good run blocking/conservative scheme with Capers. Hell everytime Johathon Wells was in there he looked just as good as DD.

This is why I was so much in favor of drafting a RB, like Bush with the #1. Oh well, but props to Kubiak for recognizing that DD is a liability and not an asset.

thanks for that post, i do remember john mcclaine saying he could get cut because he wasn't good on special teams. sounds logical. its the same reason the running back from ohio st. (forgot his name) stayed on the team the first few years. he was a good special teams player.
