Today around 11:15 or so, I was taking my sister down to the HCC at Town and Country to take a placement test so that she could register for classes. We needed cash to pay for the test, so I was going to a gas station I knew had a bank of america atm. Anyways, I was on the I-10 feeder east bound waiting at the red light at Gessner when the light turned green. I saw a guy up ahead shooting into the right turning lane on Gessner and making the right turn onto the feeder so I didn't press the gas just yet, but anyways, when it looked clear we were crossing like at 10 miles an hour and we were almost through the intersection when my sister cried out and I looked to my right and a camero was heading right for us, I guess he was in the far right lane on Gessner but not in the turning land and he hit us on the passenger side near the rear wheel and we kind of fishtailed and rolled over. I guess it's a miracle nobody was hurt because it was pretty bad. Thank god there was a Spring Branch cop waiting at the light next to us, a firefighter a couple of cars behind us, and a good samaritan who helped my sister get out of the car and was willing to be a witness. The guy who hit us is a minister/pastor or a theologian or something. I don't want to say his license plate, but it was a vanity plate with a religion based word on it. I think I heard him his name was Dr. his name, and the HPD officer who was talking to us made a joke that just because he was a man of the cloth, doesn't mean God was gonna turn that light green for him. Anyways, the thing that's bugging me is that as it was happening and everything seemed to be going in slow motion, I wasn't fearing my life or anything, I was worried about how much trouble this was going to cause, having to talk to insurance companies and what not, I was worried my dad might find a way to blame me. After the accident when different people there, paramedics, the firefighter who was behind us, police officers kept saying how amazing it was we weren't more seriously injured, I still didn't think that I was lucky to be alive and I don't know what that means but I guess I'm going to be pondering somethings for a while. Anyways, that was my crappy day. I'm ok, btw, they said I might feel some pain tomorrow, my sister is definately hurting though, her back and neck are killing her. I just gut some minor cuts on my hands, forearms, and elbows from crawling over glass to get out of the van and off the street.
Damn Oski...hope your sister feels better. Go to a doctor tomorrow or something, cause sometimes it takes a while for the pain to settle in. I was a passenger in a car that fish tailed and spub around and ended up in a ditch once. Life didn't flash for me either...wasn't scared at all, but just observant of everything in slow motion just as you said. It's so weird. Those possible near-death experiences...always weird. And the good thing about insurance is that in the state of Texas (someone else in insurance can support this) if you have medical bills covered for the car insurance, than you're double covered. It's some weird law. So like, the other driver's insurance will pay your med bills and then your insurance will pay you. It's totally legal (unless I'm wrong).
I think it's time to call the Texas Hammer or Christian Hill. Atleast, u guys are fine and thats all that matters.
Wow, that's absolutely terrible. From your description, the light must've been red for a full 6 or 7 seconds and the guy in the Camaro still had the audacity to run it. Crazy-ass driver... I sincerely hope you and your sister are both ok.
There is double coverage depending on 3rd party liability, but that doesn't mean you can recover damages from the at fault party's carrier and your own.
I'm glad you seemingly weren't injured badly. I hope that's the case. As someone who's had back surgery due to an idiot (the nicest thing I could say about him) running a red light, let me give you some advice. You may get a call from this jerk's insurance company, asking for information. DO NOT SAY ANYTHING TO THE IDIOT'S INSURANCE COMPANY! Nothing. Nada. If they persist, tell them that an attorney and/or your insurance company will contact them. If they ask who that might be, tell them they will know when they are contacted. Again, don't say anything to them, the idiot driver that hit you, or anyone connected to them. Go see a doctor. Both of you. If you can, call an attorney, first. Ask around to your family and friends for a good one. It will cost you nothing to talk to them. If they will take the case, it will most likely cost you nothing. They will want you to see a doctor. Again, you should see one. Just because you may not feel seriously hurt (you and your sister), doesn't mean you aren't. I could say a lot more. This is a serious business. Quit worrying about your family's reaction. It wasn't your fault. Get help from them, and/or your friends. My own regular doctor's wife was rear-ended by someone. She didn't go to see a doctor (yes, that's ironic), although her husband told her she should. She felt fine. Two weeks later, her neck suddenly started killing her. She then went to see a doctor, and got it x-rayed. She had fractured her neck, and didn't know it for two weeks. Good luck. I'm still pissed off about what happened to me, and it's been a few years.
in an accident like this, someone is definitely "serious" hurt. like someone said, you'll feel it tomorrow. it could lead to chronic pain in the future too. i guess it is a miracle considering the alternative. hope all ends well.
Wonder if it was that crazy preacher guy in that video online. Glad yall are "alright". You may start feeling really bad though in the next 24hrs or so, and if you do go seek some help. You could have a serious problem. (edema, etc.)
Glad you guys are OK. Read Deckard's post twice. Injuries like that tend to get worse after a day or two.
I was in an accident a few years ago where I hit a puddle going 60 mph, hydroplaned, shot off the road into a ditch, hit a tree on the front driverside tire, and then spun into a 540. While in the puddle/hyrdroplane the only thing going through my mind was "get control of the wheel and stay on the road." After hitting the tree and while doing the 540 I remember thinking "this is better than Astroworld." After the car finally stopped and I kicked open a door I realized how lucky I was between the facts that the car was totalled and that one of the two bolts holding the back of the seat to the chair snapped to have only walked away with was a pair of shaky knees. I can't tell you how thankful I am, and honestly how amazing it was that I wasn't hurt at all. I hope you and your sister don't have any lingering effects.
Glad to hear you, your sis, and the minister are all OK, aside from a few scratches and aches. If there is any consolation/silver lining to this, you can atleast look forward to a new ride as Im sure your old ride will be totaled out do to the amount of damage, depending on if its higher then the actual appraisal of the vehicle. You can probably catch a steal on a new 06 Altima right about now as they are phasing those cars out for the new "next gen" 07 Altima, due to hit showrooms this fall. The same can be said for the 06 Sentra and Maxima, although the 07 Maxima is really just an update to the 04-06 models. Id also assume Toyota will be doing the same for the current 06 Tundra, but I dont recall seeing a showroom release date for the new Texas-built 07 Tundra. And add to that, Toyota is possibly delaying the launch of new vehicles currently due to some production defects that have happened recently occured with other models. And of course, you can also chose to rape one of the "Big 3" if you choose as well..... But alas, at least you and your sis have your lives. Good luck to you (and her on her placement test) from here on out in your recovery....
I third what Deckard said and issue a stern warning you will very likely start feeling worse within 12-24 hours. It could be several days before you "hit bottom" pain-wise. It's great you escaped life-threatening injuries.
