That was a strange sequence, no doubt. Sterling Sharpe mentioned something about the refs acting like they were going to stop the clock and make a call, then Kubiak and Carr noticing that the clock was still running, hence the 10 seconds gone. I could be wrong though. It was almost halftime and we were getting ready to make another beer run. I don't understand all the "tough schedule" talk. This is the NFL, every week is a tough game. There are no cream puffs in the NFL. Teams that were great last year could totally fall off and visa versa. IMO, it's too early to tell what kind of schedule we have.
i see it. i saw it in the 1st half of 2004. that's what's so ridiculously frustrating about him. if he just flat out sucked, he wouldn't still have the job he has here. he's shown flashes of being really, really good. but he is so inconsistent...and he's shown us more of mediocrity than anything else.
Carr didn't come in a scrub - he came in with tools and potential, developed a little, and has steadily been regressing the past two years into a truamatized shell of what he could be. He's lost all confidence and poise in the pocket (even when it holds) and his bad habits (sidearm sling delivery that can not go across the line, overtly focusing on his primary) worsened. I liked him, but more and more, I wonder if he can re-establish himself and find his way again. Evan
This actually frightens me more than anything else. We all know as much as this team may have improved and I think the jury is still out somewhat there too; it is going to be a real test for Coach Kubiak to keep this teams spirits up and focused on improving week to week without losing hope. W-L record might not be the most improtant thing for this team afterall as it surely could benefit from some more high choices next year and beyond. We have to find out first and foremost whether David Carr can win in this league. He hasn't proven squat to this point and the team will not improve until he does.
i disagree. i think the team is already improving, despite the fact i don't see the same improvement in him. if the defense can shut folks down, they'll be tons better than they were last year.
no, carr stood at the line of scrimmage and let a good 5-6 seconds tick away before spiking it. it was very capers-esque. they're too few and far between at this point. we wanted to see good moments his first two years; by now, we should be seeing good, sustained stretches. he's been steadily worse every week since the midpoint of the 2004 season. look, i want the guy to succeed; i do. and if he looked lost in a new system, i'd have some patience. but the system isn't his problem. the difference between his pocket presence and rosenfels - rosenfels! - is night and day. i just don't think kubiak can coach away the harm palmer, et al, did to him. i also think he's lost this group; i just sense he's not liked. four years of abject abuse and the next time an OL stands up for carr will be the first time. i just... sorry, man. you can only put so many coats of paint on a crackhouse - it's still a crackhouse.
rezdawg, you're fighting a losing battle. There's no convincing the Carr haters that he will never be any better than he was during the first quarter ( of his third preseason game and 4th quarter under a totally new coaching regime and offensive scheme ) last night. We should tank the whole season so we can have the first pick in the draft and take Rick Mirer.....er, uh...Brady Quinn.
I can see it happening but I hope Carr sees it too and gets his butt in gear. I always said he needed team support and he's got it now and a better coach so if he stinks it up now, then he does suck.
david klingler is in seminary school now, guess those hits made him see white light http://www.dts.edu/about/profiles/David_Klingler/
quick question - why does a fifth-year starter who's had an offseason program, a full training camp and three preseason games still get treated with kid gloves? it was always someone or something else's fault - the OL; the scheme; the coaching; the WRs... but it's all been revamped - and carr is still struggling to look competent, let alone good. and instead of objective criticism, it's more excuses - it's a new system, it's only the preseason... i mean, matt leinart and jay cutler have looked more comfortable than david carr (and leinart held out and is likely playing with a raging case of herpes); daunte culepepper is learning a new system and coming back from major knee surgery and he's looked more comfortable than david carr. but for some reason, we're supposed to continue to give carr his well-earned pass. i don't get it. if only excuses were a fantasy stat; carr would be a god.
No, the refs totally ****ed that sequence up. As he was discussing about the play. Since it was only a preseason game, no problema. Although it did **** up their 2min offense practice.
Ric is owning this thread. Good post. I can name 20 quarterbacks off the top of my head i'd rather have on this team than David Carr.
