My Health Care Insurance is going up again next year by 9%. Why is it that health care cost have to increase at triple the inflation rate every year? If Hillary will have on her platform national health coverage, I will try to talk to everyone I know to vote for her!
I would not necessarily support a "national health care" program, particularly one like Canada. However, several versions of the "single payer" system appear workable in theory.
What is a single payer system? I don't mind paying money for health insurance, I just want an system where health care is reasonablly priced and if necessary, government should subsidize the low income families.
The ol' health care industry. I support federalized health care for one reason: universal records. As is, patients would not support universal medical records due to the price gouging performed by insurance companies. With federal health care, this would not be the case. As a future MD, I do not care if health care goes federal or not as I am doing it for the service and not the money.
I love my insurance company. I love the way they cryptically word statements so that you don't know what they are saying and at least two different meanings could be interpreted. I love spending time... sometimes 45 mins-1 hour at a time on hold while I wait for someone to talk to. I love fighting with them when they decline a cost that should easily be covered under my plan. I love it when the hospital says this is our policy and you have to abide by it and then my insurance company says that's not our policy so you have to pay for it. I love being put in Catch 22 situations that end costing me money. I wonder what people with less time and less education do in similar situations. The sad part is, I think I have the best plan available.
Definitions vary. Some confuse 'Single Payer' with Nationalized or Socialized Medicine where all healthcare providers and facilities essentially work for the government. In it's simplest form, 'Single Payer' means that all healthcare funds will be processed through the Federal government. In the US, Medicare is often used as an example of Single Payer. The Federal gov funds Medicare, but in many instances the healthcare companies are still involved. Seniors can sign-up with HMOs or PPOs to receive more benefits than what they receive under standard Medicare. The Feds reimburse the Health Plan at a calculated rate each month. The Health Plan must manage care properly to make a profit. I support a Single Payer with Universal Health Care. It would cut employers out of the loop (who shouldn't have been in the loop in the first place), all Americans would be covered, and private enterprise would still be involved as long as they can generate added value.

I like this idea. I don't think a completely free system like Canada is efficient. However, the cost needs to be reined in somehow. I am willing to pay insurance premium and co pays as long as they are reasonable. I can not believe this broken health care system still haven't been fixed, and people are worried about things like gay marriages?
There are two main factors that I believe drive up health insurance costs. First, there are smokers and fatasses. Smoking is pretty obvious, but being fat causes so many health problems, it boggles the mind. Diabetes, heart diasease, strokes, kidney disease, liver disease, colon cancer, and that's just off the top of my head. Every single one of those diaseases, as well as scores more, can be greatly reduced by simply being around your average weight. I'm mainly talking about obese (50 or more pounds overweight) or morbidly obese (100+ pounds overweight) Pharmaceutical companies: Quite possibly the most evil entities in the history of the universe. One of the biggest mistakes the government ever made was allowing pharmaceutical companies to avertise on TV. Not only do the billions they spend on advertising jack up drug prices (which jack up your insurance rates), but they brainwash people into thinking they have diseases that they really don't, which result in more doctor visits, which jack up insurance rates. That doesn't let insurance companies off the hook, though. They want you to pay pay pay, but when it comes down to them paying a claim, they'll use every loophole imaginable to avoid writing that check
You're still ignorant. I'll help a little since you're too lazy to google. 1. Do Health Plan profit margins cycle up and down over time? 2. Are Health Plan profit margins over the years unreasonable? 3. How much have Pharmaceutical companies profits grown? What % of health care inflation are these responsible for? Why can't Health Plans reign in these costs?
