The return of the Poll!!! All series talk goes in here. DO NOT GIVE PLAY-BY-PLAY! If you need PBP try Yahoo, ESPN, or Sportsline. 8-21 Andy Pettitte, LHP (11-13, 4.65) vs. Bronson Arroyo, RHP (10-8, 3.45) 6:10 on FSSW 8-22 Jason Hirsh, RHP (1-1, 6.75) vs. Kyle Lohse, RHP (2-5, 5.96) 6:10 on FSSW 8-23 Roy Oswalt, RHP (9-8, 3.24) vs. Chris Michalak, LHP (1-1, 5.91) 11:35 on FSSW
This very well is the season. Get swept and go to 8 games out. Sweep the Reds and they're 2 games out. If they can get to Arroyo for once, they very well could win this series. They need Lance to do what he does in Cincy. WWW
We would be good to win 2 of 3... that being said, I doubt we'll do this...This is a make or break series...
Wandy is pitching on Thursday... Roy is still in line for Wednesday. Wandy will essentially be replacing Backe in the rotation (which sucks). I'd much rather see Albers up here, or even a spot start given to Patton for the hell of it. As far as lefties go, I don't know any team that would rather have Wandy in there instead of Patton right now.
Garner has said "Wandy has won 19 games the last two year". Thats BS. Wandy sucks and he knows it. Much rather see Bucholtz, Albers, Sampson, or Zeke than him. Zeke has pitched very well lately in RR. We all know he has the stuff to be a No.3 type starter but his command sucks. Wandy just sucks. Call him Jeriome Robertson II.
With the way we've been playing (consistently inconsistent), this is the season right here. Win/sweep the series and build momentum... or start making those golf tee times for October. There is no middle ground. Ric, I'm still waiting for that apology to the Baseball Gods. PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN! WLW
Whoops. I accidentally logged on to my "twin brother's" account. Man, I should really get him to contribute to the tip jar, too. What a cheapskate.
Yea, I read that quote by Garner and immediately started to question if he really believes that Wandy is a good pitcher who plays a big role in getting his team to win all those games, or if he was simply trying to find something nice to say about him while knowing he's a mediocre pitcher. I have to believe its the latter... how anybody could legitimately think Wandy is good enough, without all that run support, to win that many games should not have a job in baseball. I will give Wandy the advantage over guys like Zeke and Taylor (for now) simply because he's a left hander. Also, Zeke and Taylor would still give up the long ball in record numbers if they were up here... and playing in our ballpark (or ones like Cincy) doesn't mesh well with that. But, Wandy should not simply be "handed" the job next year (as he was this year) based on wins that were largely decided due to obscene run support. Hell, at least Jeriome actually did pitch decent in the games he "won" (while pitching horribly in the games he lost)... Wandy has been mediocre in both wins and losses.
i feel like at the minimum we need to take 2 out of 3. if we get swept it's over and if we only win one game, then after this series we're six back with 3 less games left against the reds. that's not even including potentially moving further behind the 5 teams in front of us. it's possible that we have to sweep them right now. petitte has looked good of late, hirsh showed nice stuff last outing, and roy is roy. the matchups look good. tries to forget the sweep by the cubs with roy, roger, and andy starting.
The playoffs are NOW! This is it. If they don't play with max intensity, then they just don't care, and I am through watching them. I expect a "playoffs" type atmosphere and nothing less. If they sweep the Reds, the train is back on the track and Astroland will go nuts.
Wandy has always sucked. So did Jeriome Robertson. Both just got extraordinary run support at opportune times, allowing them to pile up wins in spite of their lack of talent. Wandy has now pitched 242+ innings in the bigs and has a 5.45 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. He's been consistent, too. Garner's a joke if he runs Wandy out there. Borkowski would be a better option if you're afraid to dip down to the minors, where Sampson and Albers would both unquestionably be better options.
blah blah blah another pivotal series yep, so were the last 4-5 series. and we've managed to **** those up too
