He looks good in the WC, but more than that, he looks a little rusty. I am glad that Yao is playing well, but even happier that he is getting the rust knocked off of him in the tournament so he can come to camp in October ready to continue his post all star streak. Also, watch Yao show his emotions, the guy flat out cares. I am VERY happy that Yao is playing in the world championships. Who is with me??? CURAHEE !!! DD
Totally agree, as long as he doesn't hurt himself again. That would be bad for all parties involved. However, I'm sure his trainers have made sure that the chances of that happening are at a minimum, so I'm not worried.
I also love how much he cares for his country and support him in anything he does in that Regard. I am rooting for China 2nd in the WC because of him. Order of rooting: 1. USA 2. China 3. Greece And still a little love for Boki's team. DD
I think its very good that he is playing in games now. Good for his recovery, good for his game speed training, good for his confidence...etc etc etc. Its not any different then the players who play at Fonde or other pick up games mini-tournies around the country. In fact is a bit better in the fact that is actually means something so the competitiveness is much, much higher then in a pick up game. I don't think you can continually think about Yao getting hurt as its such an unpredictable thing. The doctors would not let him play if he was not fully capable of doing it safely in terms of re-injuring his foot. And from the looks of things Yao's improving with each and every game he plays in so CURRAHEE!!!!
While watching the game this morning, it was also nice to see him DEMANDING the ball from his teamates. China actually tried to play the US man to man D and ran a lot of half court O, and they paid the price for it. However, China was sucessful to a degree in their halfcourt sets when they ran through Yao. The rust showed, but he also set up a few beautiful baseline cuts, and spotted a lot of open shooters. Hopefully he'll demand the ball wearing the Rox Red too.
I think it's great timing, especially with the long layoff. They'll almost surely be out in the first round anyway. Then he can take another break leading up to Rockets camp in October and be ready for the season...healed and ready to dominate.
Don't get me wrong... I love Yao but there is no way I rooting for any country but the " Good ol U.S.A." 1. U.S.A. 2. U.S.A. 3. U.S.A.
In Band of Brothers, it was a hill they ran to the top of in training, David Schwimmers character made them run it, and once right after a Spaghetti dinner. Capt. Sobel......was Schwimmers character name I think. DD
it scares me that yao is playing. he is the main focus of the chinese offense. he is not in top shape and players tend to get injured when out of shape and\or tired. i hope he does not overdo it.
Watch the games. Yao might not be in his best shape but you won't see him still suffering from the injury as well. Like many other posters said here, WC games indeed were a better stage for Yao to come back from his long rest. We are witnessing his recovery and improvement game after game.
