I'm with you. It was destined for the 5 dollar bin until popularized all over the internet. Now it's considered classic B-movie greatness, even though that was NEVER the filmmakers original intent. Whatever...just prolong's Sam Jackson's popularity and greatness
Just got back from seeing it... and I'm going to see it again tonight (10pm). I've NEVER seen a movie twice in one day, but I have to with this one. Is the movie itself great? Not really. It's merely O.K. But seeing it with a rowdy crowd makes all the difference. And seeing it at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin makes it fantastic. They had a special menu for the movie: Snakes On A Plate (seasoned snake filets), Crabs On A Boat, and Mousse On A Cake, with buckets of Samuel Jackson Bada$$ Ale. This is a movie-going experience not to be missed.
I assume they are going to have a lot of funny stuff on the dvd....Internet spoofs included...This one is my favorite http://youtube.com/watch?v=PUgl_8fI-XQ Can't wait for Sharks on a roller coaster.
What exactly is the "hype" for Snakes on a Plane? Do people like it because it is supposed to be terrible and cheesy? Reminds me of when all those middle/high school kids would go around saying lines from Napolean Dynamite. I'm more of an anchorman fan myself.
I think the original hype came from the inherent silliness of 1. there being a movie about snakes on an airplane in the first place, and 2. that the movie was actually going to be called "Snakes on a Plane" (the stupidity of the title was the major selling point in the initially ironic geek love. As a matter of fact, when New Line considered changing the title early on, the online contingent threw a fit). People latched on to that and it just grew.
Just got back from watching this. First movie i've seen at the theaters in quite a long time. I loved it. It was a great movie.
Saw it and easily the best movie of the Summer. Pirates of the Carribean wishes it was Snakes on a Plane. FYI having a few beers before hand really enhances the experience.
Went to see it tonight. Great movie, exactly what I expected. The first 10 minutes are kind of boring (who cares about the story anyway ?), but as soon as the plane takes off, it's all good !
Just got back from seeing it. One of the most fun movies I've seen in a long time. Talladega Nights was funny, but it wasn't quite this much FUN. The movie mixes just the right amount of action with humor. It also really held your attention -- throughout the movie, I was always so curious to see who would die. I'm gonna go see it again next week. BTW, if anyone is ever in Chicago and wants to see a movie, the theater in Oak Park on Lake Street is the coolest/nicest theater I've ever been to. Really awesome place.
*********SPOILER ALERT********** they put just about every b-movie cliche in there but i found it ironic, and funny, that all the black people survived. please guys, don't take that as an offensive racial comment and turn this into a D&D thread. it was merely an observation. just thought i'd throw that in for the sensitive folks.
Number 1 for the week with $15.3 million (this doesn't include the roughly $1.5 million from Thursday, I think). ETA: Though I see Box Office Mojo has SoaP at $13.8 million for the weekend, behind Talledega Nights. So, maybe the $15.3 million does include Thursday.
As much as I don't want to see it, I'll probably see it in a couple of weeks...Hell, I saw Ricky Bobby and laughed my arse off, so I'm ok with stupid movies...Besides, the Safety Instructions poster was hilarious....
I don't think it will have the same impact a few weeks from now. Best to see it now while the audiences are still rowdy. I was thinking while I was watching it if I had seen this at home on DVD I probably wouldn't have liked it nearly as much.
